The 5th gen forums are entertaining. When you're dealing with a car that every one and their grand mother owns there's a ton of dip sh*ts that have no idea what they're talking about. I come on here to share knowledge and to learn.. but usually I just end up laughing at what some other people are saying

Again, the C7 Z06 is an amazing car. Is it 20 sec. faster than the C6 ZR1? I highly doubt it. Be ecstatic if it 8-10 sec faster than the old GM king of the 'ring.

It's the ones that "ONLY" care about mustangs that I don't understand. Plenty of Camaro owners here that have a Mustang in their stable as well .

All that aside, we are not going to get a Z06 ring time for a very long time. They haven't had much luck with the weather for a while.

I am pretty open I have more of a prefrence to Ford right now, but when GM makes a product I want/can afford I would get it. But there are 2 reasons I joined this forum,

1. This forum does get quite a bit of good info on just about anything.

2. There are some hilariously bad threads that you just have to read for the lolz.

Didn't realize this was a Whites Only establishment.

First time on the internet for some of you or what? What kind of differences are people expecting from a base z06 and a z07 equipped car in terms of track performance?

Sure, 3-5 seconds would make me happy. 8-10 seconds would make me ecstatic.

I'm guessing it will run about (or slightly better) than the '10 Viper time. I certainly think it has a shot at a 7:15:xx time. In the end, I really don't care because:

1) I will never drive on the 'ring
2) It is more car than I am driver
3) It is my dream car

Didn't they crash the Z06 at the ring? They will probably try again in the spring.

Pretty much every high performance car that has gone through extensive testing at the 'Ring has gone into the green hell a few times.

This is what was posted on Supervettes...

Heat Soak? Horsepower-limiting ECU? Undersized roots blower?

Who’s laughing now?

According to fresh reports, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has run a lap time of 6:59.13 at Nurburgring, and the HD on-board video will be released “soon”.

What do we know about this run? It was done in a production 2015 C7 Z06, and the car was equipped with the Z07 aerodynamics package, along with GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed transmission. That is all the information we have at this point, but we do expect more (official) information to be released in coming weeks.

As you know, the C7 Z06 has been heavily criticized as of late, with rumors circulating that the car suffers from heat stroke, or a poorly programmed factory ECU, etc. There are also numerous videos appearing on the internet of the new Z getting beat by the likes of the SRT Viper – the C7 Z06’s primary competitor.

This recent news, however, will redeem this amazing machine in the eyes of enthusiasts, and will solidify this car as an amazing machine that displays hypercar performance.

This lap time places the new 2015 Corvette Z06 in a new category altogether, and could be compared (statistically) to the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 – all for a fraction of the price. For reference, the Porsche 918 Spyder has previously recorded a 6:57 lap time, so this new Z06 is certainly in elite and exclusive company.

2015 Corvette Z06 Absolutely Destroys Virginia International Raceway, but GM left out one tiny detail….
2015 CORVETTE Z06 ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, BUT GM LEFT OUT ONE TINY DETAIL….

I don't know how true all of this is... just what was posted...
Its not. GM has already came out and said that the sub 7 minute time isn't true (as someone else in this thread already mentioned).

As they told Autoblog:
Quote:
Unfortunately, Chevy says there isn't anything to it. We reached out to the Bowtie's Monte Doran, who confirmed that HK's claims are "not accurate."

"Any one – a manufacturer, a journalist, a guy standing on the fence of the Ring – can claim a lap time. As such, we think the in-car video is essential to proving a time is real and credible, and Chevrolet will not release a lap until we have a video to substantiate the claim," Doran told Autoblog. "Chevrolet accumulated nearly 1,000 miles of testing on the Nürburgring with the Z06. During that time, we only had two opportunities to run a lap on video – and both were rained out. If we get a lap on video, we will post an official time."
So, while it might theoretically have run a sub-7 minute lap, nobody has anything to back up that claim (and it could even just be made up by the Horsepower Kings website as click-bait). And if GM isn't going to support the claim, why should anyone believe it?

The Z06, at whatever trim, is F A S T around any track. Some of us don't need to see a "Ring a ding a ling" time to believe it.

Because it is the "General Automotive + Other Cars Discussion" sub forum. Would you rather have discussions about other cars with the owners of other cars or just with fellow Camaro owners that only read about other cars?

I find less "entertaining" posts here than other forums. So still not sure that's an answer.

You guys think that GM may just go ahead and start producing the new Z06 with the 2.3l supercharger instead of the 1.7l in the coming years?

Sounds like that is all this car needs

I believe they went with the 1.7 due to hood clearance. not sure if a 2.3 would fit. I could be wrong though but im pretty sure I remember that.
