Uh.... No, it didnt. It CLAIMED as much HP, but we all know what happened because of that claim. The very cars you speak of gave us the SAE HP Rating system.
However, I do agree that the OHC design has some real benefits and advantages. In fact I see it becoming the norm very soon. Ford has matured the mod motors exponentially since the old Cobras. They are truly a force to be reckoned with now. In that day, they were a joke till Ford started slapping blowers on everything.

As awesome as the LT1 is, I would trade the pushrods for a DOHC/4V set up in a second...that would be a monster, probably 525 ponies easy. But, I won't complain about the LT1 one bit!

The issue with the 99 cobra was big but once it was addressed the cobra had no problem hitting its ratings or better.

The I4's and some of the V6's never really came to pass..so that really only left the 4.6 and it's very early offspring the 5.4.

DOHC/4V designs by their nature flow very well, a very dense in terms of power when compared to displacement, rev very well and are very tunable. The 4.6 4V motor from the 97-2002 Cobra was making as much HP on 4.6L as the LS1 was at 5.7L, but obviously not as much torque.

Long story short...the DOHC/4V set up is as ideal of a performance head as the current modular design can provide.
Except the ls1 made 345hp/345 tq, I believe. F bodies were rated at a little less. Ls6 was if course 385/405hp depending on the year.

The little remembered zr1 if 1991 (going off memory) was a dohc LT1 (lt5) made over 400hp

For 98 the 4.6 4v and LS1 in the Z28 were both rated at 305 hp.

Not for the SS and WS6 cars. Course the truth was there was little difference between the f-body LS1s and the Corvette ones. So even the 320hp rating on the SS was below the actual output.

None of what you posted proves that DCT cars are faster if shifted manually, and I am fairly certain this is not the case. I don't doubt which is more fun, nor which a race car driver might prefer, but that doesn't necessarily mean the same thing.

Read my posts again...

I never said all DCT's. Many of those are best left to shift for themselves. I said specifically, the transmissions that Ferrari uses....

That it sure was, my '00 SS M6 with just a lid dynoed 325 SAE corrected. That car made over 400 to the wheels with just a cam, intake and headers. I still miss it...ran 11's with ease.

Talking

It will be great to see the GT350 VS 6th. gen Camaro SS lap times.
I'm also sure that the SS would not be a match for the GT350R, the right match for that fight is VS the Z28 track ready Camaro that is the same league of the "R"

I agree...the 67 grand GT350r without back seat and carbon fiber wheels will outpace the camaro SS on a road course. Zero to 60 mph and possibly quarter mile times the camaro SS A8 should keep pace,

The gt350 and the GT350r are fantastic for the pony car wars.....as the following year gm will probably roll out a carbon fiber wheeled z28 with a hotted up LT1 engine for the same 67 grand....and then we ll have another big shoot out...

Ford will then rollout with the GT 500 and crush the camaro SS at the street....

And then the following year GM will defeat the GT500 with the zL1....or it will be a tie....or the hellcat will win...

It's all about getting free publicity in the form of the automotive media....both the interweb and in print.
