waxed my car for the first time today. dark marks in the paint, particularly the hood
I'm thinking this could either be from 1. leaving the wax on too long 2. the hood still being hot (although it was not just the hood, there were some spots on the roof) or 3. the area I waxed it was not quite shady enough.
The question is which one is it though? It's a black car and the marks look sort of like areas were wiped with a slightly darker black. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

using detail spray after waxing eliminates some of the streaking....

It can go both ways to hot and taken off to early, you use some mequires quick detailer mist and mist the roof and hood, it will remove it use a good micro towel also, i have a black car aswell and its happen to me, but i use a professional buffer when i do my car, i also use mequires gold black wax it works the best for me, i put on with hand let it set for about 15mins, depending how hot is in the garage, then buff off.

Incomplete wax removal. As was suggested, use a detailer spray and a good, clean microfiber towel to even the appearance out. I can't stress the clean part of the microfiber towel enough...even a little wax residue left in the cloth can cause streaking.

now that I think of it that does make sense. I kept forgetting which side I was using for the final wipe and ended up just using all random sides on the microfiber towel for the whole car and by the time I was finished the microfiber cloth was almost like very slightly moist.

Sounds like you either did not apply the wax evenly or you removed it incorrectly.

I use an orbiter to put mine on and buff it off, and I've found that only some types of wax leave the streaks on black cars. Usually the new synthetic "wipe on, wipe off's." Thus I usually stick to the good old "let sit" wax. I'll have to try the detailer spray, though.

Orbital buffer to apply and take off the wax works well for me. Also have not used any other wax but Liquid Glass.

You probably didn't leave the wax on for too long, I've never seen that cause an issue.
Like others have said you likely didn't get all the wax off. What kind of wax did you use? Detailing spray and a microfiber will probably fix you right up. |
