SS engine

422 horsepowas

The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The standard manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, rated a projected 422 horsepower and 408 lb.-ft. of torque. The LS3 debuted on the 2008 Corvette and uses high-flow cylinder heads based on the Corvette Z06 LS7 engine to enable great low-end torque and high-rpm power. It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed manual transmission.

O.k is this typing error or what? 422 at 5000 rpm ? Isn't max. power of ls3 in corvette at 5900 rpm or something like that. Or will this be something like 422 at 5000 rpm but 440 + at 5900 rpm.
I'm still waiting for engine where we "can forget anything we know about engines" or something like that...just kidding.

The two cars have different intake and exhaust combinations that probably have some impact on final power. I'm not suggesting there isn't a possibility they are low-balling, however, two different platforms - two different power levels.

Or it is just misprint...
if you use this formula http://www.vettenet.org/torquehp.html you will get that a max. torque at 5000 rpm is 443 yet GM claims max torque of 408 at 4500 rpm. If max.power was at 5900 you will get torque of 375 at that rpm..so smaller than 408 which it should be.

Generally speaking, they do. And it is also said that they don't actually take power away from Corvette engines when they are put into Camaros.

the easiest explanation I can think of is intake, headers/exhaust. Slow down the air into the engine and use a less free-flowing exhaust system to create a bit more back pressure and push down the HP.

All it takes is a high-profile tune to make this new Camaro match Corvette numbers. It wouldn't hurt to supplement that with a new exhaust, headers, and intake.
