code p1074 ideas?

Okay I have a new engine with about 200 miles on it in my car, I picked it up from ADM to put some more break-in miles on it while Andy is on vacation. It ran great when I picked it up and I put about 60 miles on it with it running fine. Then it starts running rough and shows code 1074 left side O2 sensor showing lean. All of the fuel injector wiring connections seem to be plugged in and I changed the front O2 sensor. Changing the sensor seemed to make a little difference but did not fix the problem. The check engine light is not on in the dash but the code comes back in the computer even though I reset it out. I could just wait for Andy to get back but I like to think I'm not totally helpless mechanically. Any ideas?

99% of the time everyone changes the sensor, without it fixing the issue..want you need to do is add a little propane to see if the o2 sensor changes trim, goes rich, then back to lean, that way you know its working..after that use a can of brake clean, make sure its the friendly type so it wont leave any nasty color changes on anything, look at the reading on your scanner to see if it goes rich, and listen for a change in rpm, when you here the rpm change, and the readings go rich, you will find your vac leak !!!
also you can look at your injectors if you have a injector light plug it in to see if the computer is commanding on/off, after that use a scope and place it on each injector to see if you hear the injector working !!! that should help you track down the issue, good luck let me know if i can help you in anyway ! I turn a wrench on and off for 20yrs before being wheelchair bound !!

intake leak, vacuum leak, pcv...basically any "phantom" air leak. Even an exhaust leak near the 02 sensor can do it.

Any ideas where I could have a vacuum leak suddenly appear, that was not there originally.

My reader says P1074 but the I have seen that other readers transpose the first 2 digits.

I think this is a little deeper than I care to go myself at this time.....

I just had a revelation. Andy swapped my blower because it was making more noise than it should have been and I know the 2.3 blower he swapped on my car had been plumbed for nitrous. If I can figure out the Nitrous plumbing I'm sure I'll find a vacuum leak.

Thanks for all of the help guys!

Where would you inject nitrous on one of these beasts...lol? I'm thinking in the intake right in front of the heads but I really have no idea....

Hi Jess,
Just take it back to Andy and get some nitrous bottles. Use them for the strip!

I believe that the nitrous guys that use Andy's setup use that "bar" setup underneath the blower. I saw one at his shop but it works on the pressure side not the vacuum side. I would get a flashlight and check all hose connectors if I were you I've done it before on a friends car and we found one that wasn't seated all the the way. Goodluck!

The 1.9 blowers have a machined direct port bar system, the 2.3 blowers run a dry shot into the intake tube before the throttle body. I guarantee its not caused from the blower or the nitrous system that was plumbed into a different intake tube.

easy trick....while the car is idling, take a can of intake/carb cleaner and spray gently near vacuum lines or intake area and see if the idle speed rises or surges. You can find any phantom air leak this way.

You got this right, there is absolutely no sign of any changes to the blower or manifold on the 2.3.

I spent 2 hours last night tugging on hoses and wires and shining lights and clearing codes and got no where...lol. But we do think alike....lol.

I guess it is time to spray.... so far I have suggestions for brake fluid and carb cleaner, both dissipate well and clean, I don't know which would have a more dramatic effect on engine idle, perhaps ether starting fluid would work also.... It is probably the main ingredient in both of those cleaners.

This car is already pretty scarey... but I like the idea.....

Spraying the area usually works to find a vacuum leak. It just takes a bit of time in locating it. Or just wait until Andy returns, which probably will feel like forever.

Just hit land , Jess get the car back down will see
What changed .

The blower head units were identical with one swapped
And new gaskets were used and riveted I place correctly.

Our nitrous spraybar is in the INTERCOOLER top on the ZR1 lids.

Jess has his same lid.
