New guy looking for advice on a new purchase

I'm new to the forums, and am ready to pick up a new ZL1. I was hoping some people here may be able to help me out a bit. I'm stationed in Germany right now with some of the best roads and tracks around. I'm paying cash, and already built it on the Chevrolet site. I'm just wondering if I should wait about 2 more weeks to see what the 6 will be. I keep hearing different things on whether or not there will be a ZL1 with the new model. I know that typically with a new model year, it's a year or two later before the high performance variants are made. I really like the look of the 5th gen, but if the performance of Gen 6 is what they are saying, should I wait??? From what I read, it seems as though the SS will get some suspension stuff from the ZL1. Not sure how accurate that is, but if so, it makes me wonder how bad a$$ the new ZL1 would be??? If they make one. I hate being in a position to purchase a new vehicle right before a model year change, it makes the choice that much harder. So I guess I'm just looking for thoughts and opinions. I really love the Blue on the 2015's, and when I order, that's what color it will be. This seems like a pretty awesome forum with a lot of good info. Thanks in advance for any advice.

No way would I take a 6th gen SS over a 5th gen ZL1. I will definitely entertain the thought of 6th Gen ZL1, but your not talking until probably 2017 ish for release date or who knows what it will be called.

But then again it's your preference.

If you can wait two weeks to be sure, that's your call.

I seriously doubt you will see anything more than an SS with the introduction and even at that, the SS may not be available until later this year.

Typically, they don't bring out the bigger dogs until at least after the first model year. The 5th Gen was two years old before the ZL1 came out; the C7 Z06 was a year behind the C7, etc.

Thanks guys, that's kinda what I was thinking as well. And what better year to bring out a new ZL1 than 2017...50yr anniversary! I'm really leaning towards just getting a 15 and enjoying it. There will alwys be a newer, better, faster something out there...

I would say wait. 2 weeks till you can actually see the 6th gen and decide if you even like the looks of the 6th gen, then im sure around year end you can see what/if chevy has planned for a 6th gen ZL1

ok, well i've decided to go ahead with a 2015 ZL1. I built the car on the GM site, but now I have to figure out the best way to get it. There are no GM dealers here in Germany that deal with the military. There are German dealerships, but they sell euro spec cars, and the mark up is insane. I thought about buying one in the states, but then I have to figure out how to get it here. I already shipped a vehicle with the military, so that's out. Does anybody know of any shipping companies that they can recommend, or ones to stay away from? Thanks.

I'm sure you will be happy with your zl1. If the new camaro body style is going in the same direction as the new mustang look as in more sports car less muscle car I'd pass on the 6th gen. Although the weight reduction would be nice, you can always make a car go faster, exterior cannot be changed as easily.

gmjj13 - you are going to be SO happy with this car. Good luck with the getting to Germany (don't know anything about it). Manual or auto?! I think everyone who bought this year wondered if they should wait for the gen6 to come out. I drove so many cars before I decided to go with the ZL1. For me the ZL1 is perfection for my needs. Nothing else came close. Might there be something better ahead - sure. Will I be checking out the gen6 - you bet...but have no intentions of selling/trading my 2015 until I have about 100K miles on it. Then we'll see what the latest/greatest out there is again.

How happy will you be driving a car that gets 18 MPG in a country where gasoline is $9 a gallon?

I just spent a week in Germany for work. Petrol was about 1.55 Euro per liter. That's about $5.23 per gallon. And does anyone on here really get 18 mpg out of this car?

The entire time I was there I was just thinking about how awesome it would be to have my Z there to drive. Cab driver was late picking me up on way back so we went 195 kph all the way to the airport What was even scarier is a couple of motorcycles passed us like we weren't even moving.

Great question. No. They say they do, but it's because their wife is in the car. That's when I get my best gas mileage.

If you're serious about it, I've two friends that shipped cars to Germany that I could ask. I know one had to change some lights but otherwise was easy.

I've driven from Stuttgart to Lindau pretty often in Audi's and Merc's. Couldn't imagine going all out in a ZL1.

I can already tell the 2016 Camaro SS will be AWESOME.

I'm certain it's going to be a 2015 Camaro 1LE with the body scaled down 5% weighing 3650lbs and equipped with MagRide.

It will no doubt be the most bad ass 4-seater sport-muscle on the road under 40k.

I love that they're going smaller, not bigger.

I wouldn't dream of trading my ZL1 for it. Not in a million years.

But I am interested in the 2017 ZL1

EDIT: My gut also tells me that a 2016 SS will be closing in on the 2016 GT350. Not equals, but close for $15k less.
