Stock 2014 SRT-8 Charger vs 2013 L99 SS convertible

So a guy up the street wants to get in on our potential spring track day. He has a completely stock SRT-8 Charger with a sunroof. I have CAI & full Borla ATAK cat-back. Mine sounds better and has to be lighter, but he should have 25-30hp on me. Maybe closer to 40. I think if I get the hole shot I should be good. Thoughts?

My thoughts are....he will beat you. Those things while heavier are pretty quick. Once they get rolling they are hard chargers up top.

I second that. I had an 11 L99 with 93 tune, intake, texas speed headers. On the stock tires. The best I could manage was a 12.66. The 392 can run low 12s stock.

Thanks guys. I should have bought the ZL-1 convertible!!!

I'll have to be satisfied with knowing I have the 5.7L Challenger beat and see how the Charger runs. It's not a very attractive automobile. Especially in white.

Well I raced a brand new Challenger A8 392 Scat pack twice. I had shorty headers.....cai....and a tune. My stock Pirellies were bald. First race I left him off the line he spun....I spun a lot more. He reeled me in and won by inches on the big end . I think he thought he would destroy me so he asked again to run. I could tell he wasn't happy. Next run he blew the tires off on the line and I went on for the win. Here's a video of the good race. Go to 3:58:22 exactly to see us on the line. There is over 4hrs of racin so make sure you go to that exact time.

It may do low 12s stock but can the driver mod do low 12s which is the main question. Line up and see what happens.

Even if it is not the 6.4 392.

The 6.1 Hemi is quick. They come stock with a shorty style cast header most guys do a test pipe cat delete, intake, and a tune and make around 380-390 wheel through that Mercedes 5 speed automatic.

They have a benzo E55 amg rear suspension and S class front suspension a bit of a hodgepodge but they HOOK UP. It is a VERY close drivers race for a bolton SS.

When i had a Vararam Tune model intake, 2" primary headers 3" straight pipe no cats and a tune with descent tires i Barely nosed one out from a roll and won by about half a car at 120. Get a high stall or gears, and a aggressive headers and you have a chance with the heavier convertible.

Thank you.

My wish list has Kooks ceramic long tubes, no cats, 3.91 rear, and a 3400 stall tourque converter. My mind wanders to a supercharger now and then, but then you need fuel pump, axels, cam w/ new lifters, injectors, etc...

Your list is just fine....if you are going with a super charger then thats a bit of a different story. Headers....stall... gears will make a big difference in your car.

If you stall and 3.91 and your tires hook you will be ok.

Thanks Ron. I'm going to start with the 3.91 rear as I can do that and keep the boss happy as she said I HAVE to keep the powertrain warranty active. Once that goes I'll do a good tune to eliminate the AFM so I can ditch the Range device and the other mods, although I sooooooo want the headers this summer!
