He was just trying to abuse your car and take more of your money. You don't need a retune for just a new clutch.. That just some BS

You need to get a lawyer and sue him. That is just wrong on so many levels.

Anytime you do a big build there are bugs to work out. I can't believe he would do that to someone and expect to stay in business.

What he said was just an excuse not to fix anything. If you have any type of receipt saved I would go after him and make him pay for all the damages if any was caused.

due to the dollar amount it may be over the small claims amount. if not it may be worth it to look into. atleat you have a written receipt along with bank/ credit card statements that shows payment to him you should have a good case. contact the BBB also to see if you can file a claim. outside of those 2 since its a small shop there isnt much you can do.

near me to file a small claims is only like $75. to some people once they get served they will want to clear their name and settle.

also contact your local news they love doing stories on topics like this where people get screwed from business owners.

Couple items to piggy back on these ideas...

Small claims is a good idea, even if you only recoup the max the court allows (I think $5,000 in my State). You can't get back ALL the money anyway, just what it would cost to repair/replace at another shop (get estimates). Make sure if you settle he also pays the filing fee with small claims. You shouldn't eat a single cent in this.

The Better Business Bureau is not a legal entity, and it's really just a money making ploy now. At one time (decade+ ago) they acted as a means to balance business practices and consumer rights, and many businesses were members. With online reviews becoming the norm the value in such an entity has greatly diminished. It's important to restate this - they are NOT a legal entity.

Better idea -- file a claim with your Attorney General's office. If they won't/can't handle it they will forward it to the department that will. I had an issue with a local repair shop and was forwarded to our Department of Motor Vehicles. Your State laws will dictate the flow of the claim.

News agencies are useful, but only in chorus with the other legal options. More than likely he won't settle until legally obligated. The news thing is really just to put the screws to them, and to be spiteful he will likely ignore you. Only the heavy hand of the law is going to slap any sense into such a person.

OP, you killed your car while RACING , that's all they need to know. I know it sucks but it is what it is.

Local news won't fix the problem
