NBC needs to NEVER be allowed to broadcast the Olympics again.
I'm sorry, I can't hold it back anymore.
NBC's coverage of the Olympics this year was abyssmal. They cut an hour from the opening ceremony They never showed Muse playing the Olympic theme (which muse wrote), as well as The Who and some other stuff. Then, there's this think called TIVO or DVR which would allow us to watch as soon as we get home had they broadcast live. Instead, we get this packaged piece of tripe that NBC foisted on us. Seriously, I could not stand to watch the events on TV. I instead chose to watch the events streamed over the internet with NO announcers because of my loathing of how NBC was broadcasting this. Sorry for the rant, but somehow we need to let NBC know to never subject the US to this kind of torture ever again. This is how I felt when subjected to NBC during these Olympics:

And lets not forget that they would spoil who won the gold before they aired the broadcast.

The did show The Who. They cut away from the closing ceremonies to show that crap show, then cut back to show the rest of it afterwards.
I believe their contract was just through this one though. Now it's open for negotiations. |

AND, they interrupted their coverage the other night with the "breaking news" about Paul Ryan being chosen as Romney's running mate.... It wasn't even confirmed, could have waited until the next news broadcast... grrrr.....

It was rather dismal. And not to get political, but NBC's fawning over the public healthcare 'celebration' in the opening ceremony was absolute tripe. Sorry. Plus, sick and dying children do not usually use their beds as trampolines. Seriously, the country that brought us Guinness and Bass ale should have celebrated brewing...not socialized medicine (in a system that is dead broke) End rant.

Up here in Canada, CTV & TSN had AMAZING coverage of the Olympics. Not only in "almost real-time fashion", but they also covered many more events than NBC, and they didn't focus on one countries atheletes (NBC only focuses on USA atheletes).

I totally agree with the Steve! I was home all day and what was on the most, soccer! A whole channel of soccer, all day. A total waste IMO! The medal rounds USA were in weren't broadcast live(for the most part). They saved them until night time where they would get more money for commercials. Why not do both? I hope NBC never does it again!

Heck, I am betting they never showed sailing.
Ended up watching that online...with no announcers. Much better. My only complaint with watching online was that for the first 3-4 days of the olympics, you'd be 20 minutes into watching the event and an ad would come up. Then another ad...and another...I think I once stopped watching after 10-12 ads loaded. Was stuck in a loop. They did fix that, but was kind of annoying.

They did show the 50k Speed Walking event though.
I lost out on the respect during the opening ceremonies where the announcers decided to let us know which countries we shouldn't expect to win anything. Also during the 20 minutes or so they followed lebron around during the parade of athletes. Don't they realize we had 528 other athletes to talk about? |

NBC can go suck an egg for all I care. They cancel all their good TV shows to replace them with complete and utter garbage. Then they ruin a global event like the Olympics.
If ESPN were to cover the Olympics, you'd have 4 different channels of non-stop 24-hour live coverage of probably every single event with minimal artsy back-story pieces that no one really cares about. Heck, they could probably do it with 3 channels and still have the rest of their channels to cover everything else happening in sports, and still not break a sweat... /rant
