side mirror

I was coming home from work this afternoon on a narrow residential street with a car coming towards me so I got far over and hit a plastic trash can. I didn't notice till later almost home that my passenger mirror, Just the glass piece was gone. Looks like it might of been on with just some double sided tape. The pan/tilt piece works fine and there is four small holes on the outer edge but it does not look like anything was in them unless maybe plastics pop in tabs. Anyone know about these and how to replace without going to the dealer?

I was a good way from where it happened by the time I knew it was missing and figured it would probably be broke anyway. Also not sure which block I was on when it did happen. Thanks for the responses.

You hit a trash can and didn't stop immediately to assess any damage (to your car or the trash can)? It's called part of being a responsible driver. If you damaged the trash can, it would be your responsibility to fix/replace it - depending whether the can was in the road or you were over too far. And if you checked your mirrors every few seconds (as you should), you would have known you had damage almost immediately.
