What's everyone doing to eliminate seat belt chime when using harness?
I will be installing a 5 point harness this week and leaving the OEM seat belt in place. What is everyone doing to eliminate the seat belt chime when using a harness? I've seen on some other forums people using a dummy piece like this

Good question. We had a chance for some hot laps at Barber this Saturday in Birmingham and chose to wear the harnesses on the 2nd round of laps. I just buclked both belts behind us and strapped on the harnesses. No stupid dinging, but I'd rather do that and let the system think someone is in both seats for air bag reasons, though I doubt it makes any difference as the car knows when it's moving.

I just picked up one of those Simpson construction straps for $1.09 cut it in half and did some grinding. It works perfect, I'd post a pic but my baby is in the shop.

See if a junk yard near you has a wrecked Camaro and get those pieces off of the front seat belts - then snap those into your Camaro's seat belt buckles when using your harness(es). If the car was wrecked so the front seat belt tensioners were 'fired' by the SRS system, those seat belt units are toast anyway. Works like a charm.

Like others have said, I just buckle the OEM seatbelt in. You can route it behind the chair, behind your back or over. Just kind of a hassle.

This November was the first trip for me with my harness setup and I really never noticed the dinging too much. I've begun to grid as soon as my group opens so I can be first on the track and it's usually running for a minute before I roll off, so it doesn't ding when I'm on the track.

Does leaving the seat belt disconnected effect the air bad deployment?

Like in the past with my other vehicles, I'm looking into making a terminator pigtail for the seat-belt wiring harness once the shop manual is available for the 2015's. That way when I'm out cruising around, I won't get caught trying to remove a dummy seat-belt striker when I'm driving past a trooper seat-belt checkpoint.....
Once it's made I'll be sure to post it in the how-to section for those that are interested if its hasn't been already done. |
