Cool How To Fix Door Panel Buzzing/Rattling

If your door(s) is/are buzzing:
  • Remove the rubber "tray" in the middle of the door panel towards the front of the armrest. This is the part you grab to shut the door.
  • Use a 5/32 Hex tool to loosen the bolt 1/2 to 1 full turn
  • Replace the rubber "tray" and you are in business.

I have read a couple of posts about this problem so hopefully this will help a few of you out. A few days after I got my SS, I started noticing a VERY severe buzz coming from the passenger side door. It was so bad that I thought I had blown one of the BA speakers. I thought that was pretty rediculous, honestly, since it was only a few days old and I had not even had the volume above 30.

Thanks to the wonderful sound of the LS3, I have had many trips where I have just shut off the radio so I could listen to the "other stereo". I started noticing that the buzzing continued even then, with the speakers totally unpowered. My girlfriend pointed out that the sound seemed to be coming from even further back, near the center of the door, and if she applied pressure there it would stop. Further tests verified that the speaker was not blown and working fine. Also, though not as bad, I noticed the driver's side door was producing a similar sound.

I had been considering taking it in to the dealership to see if they could do something about it (doubtful) or just taking the whole door panel off myself to see if I could fix it. Before I did that (after pounding the plastic a few times) I noticed that there is a hex screw beneath the small rubber "tray" that is in the armrest of the door, between the part where your arm lays and the door handle. I took a 5/32nd hex tool and tightened that screw as much as I could without feeling like I was causing damage. That didn't help...and it may have even made the problem worse. Then I decided to back the screw out a whole turn and BINGO! That is just enough that the door panel doesn't feel loose, but enough that it doesn't make contact with whatever internals were causing it to buzz. This worked on both doors and after several road (engine, bumps) and garage (BA) tests, the horrible buzzing sound has completely vanished!

I am not making any guarantees this will work on your car, and I am certainly not responsible if you break something, but I think this is about as simple a solution as there can be, so you may want to give it a try if you have the problem.

I thought I heard a SLIGHT buzzing from the passenger door. I'll pay a little more attention next time and see if I can pinpoint it.

I just finally got around to doing this and it worked like a charm! I didn't have the wrench needed so had to wait to go to my parents to grab one. Thanks a ton k-money!

I have been noticing buzzing from my passenger door on and off for a week or so now, I too thought it was my speaker (but didn't see how it could be). It was really bad last night driving home from work, but I found this thread last night and tried the fix this morning -- no more buzzing!! Thank you!

i tried this and didnt work for me, then i pressed my arm up against the armrest and the rattling went away...anyone know how i can stop that rattle?
Oh and when i have my music on, the rear panel that houses the rear speaker rattles like no tommorow, its unbelievable how much it rattles....i wonder if there is any other way of getting that to stop other then sound deadening

Don't know on the rear panel. If you loosen the bolt in the door a little more, you might have some luck. I was having the same problem and pressing against the door made it go away, that's why I initially tightened the bolt (which didn't help). I had to loosen the passenger side much more than the driver's to make it stop.

Hey, UCF w00t, glad it helped. I want to personally THANK YOU for the work you did on the spasticsquirrel database. I, like many people, didn't get much info out of my dealer during the wait and you have no idea how much joy I had the day my VIN showed up in the database. Of course, then I got stuck in Warehouse 13 for 2 months, but your site was a huge help, nonetheless. THANK YOU!
