What is the truth?
I want to know the truth. How much faster is a stock 5.0 Coyote than a Camaro SS LS3, ive seen many videos, some show a very close race with equal drivers in the 1/4 mile but to hear everyone here tell it the 5.0 just totally smokes the LS3's.
I had a 2013 5.0 and to me it didnt seem that much faster if at all and the 5.0 also had alot less low end torque compared to my LS3 or am I dreaming? Whats the honest unbiased truth with these 2 in the 1/4 mile. You can also chime in regarding the Challenger R/T's as well. |

A RT can give a L99 a good run. A 5.0 vs ls3 is close drivers race when both are stock. But when you start throwing on mods the 5.0 walks away from the ls3 pretty good. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...GT-track-times

I have owned 2 different 5.0 Mustangs, a 2011 and a 2013. my 2011 ran a best of 12.77 and my 2013 ran 12.82 in 87 degree temps.. my 2010 Camaro never came close to those times. Both Mustangs were bone stock and had less than 500 miles on em

My experience 5.0 wins. I would add the variables. I had all season tires he had the summer stock tires. I would only win if I got a good launch or the hit on a roll.

Stock for stock equal drivers probably 5.0. As far as after mods depends which one you like more and your budget. Whoever has the most money will be the fastest. Ive had both also and I enjoy my SS more. My 5.0 had a paint issue and was paranoid about every little noise that came from the mt82. Im starting to realize on these threads ppl often forget that its really about peopls budget which will be faster. I love the look of the 13 14 5.0 but their looks dont beat the sound of a cammed LS.

When I had my 13 5.0 M6 a buddy had a 11 SS lS3. We are both pretty equal drivers. at the track we both cut 1.9 60fts. I ran a 8.21 he ran a 8.6. This was the exact same time night so we were both racing in the same DA. Now I was able to get my SS down to a 8.5 in much better weather. When my 14 5.0 A6 was stock it pulled off 8.1s pretty consecutively.
Most stock LS3 Camaros I see though go about 8.8-9.0ish, most M6 5.0s I see go 8.6-8.8 with not so good of drivers behind the wheels of both. this is all in the 1/8th. Just in my opinion the M6 5.0 Is about .3-.4 faster than the LS3 Camaro when stock. |

I ran a 5.0 last year from a 50 to 150 roll in my friends 2008 C6 ls3 corvette manual with kook long tubes and corsa catback no tune. He was in an auto 5.0 with a tune, cai, and exhaust. I barely put a half of car on him and I'm a damn good driver.
If this was in the ss the outcome would have been worse as our cars are pigs. They have a gearing and weight advantage as well as low end torque. I prefer the ss bc of the interior and exterior styling over the coyote as well as that cammed sound when cammed. Back to the topic though op, If you catch a crappy or not experienced driver in a 5.0 it could go in your favor (stock for stock). Both are damn good performers but the coyote has the upper edge. Mod for mod = who has the deepest pockets will determine who is faster! |
