Eh. It seems with the coefficient of drag of something in the mid-.30s, I'd say mid-160s. GM will probably put a limiter on it like they do with almost everything else.

My guess is the electronic speed limiter will be around 158 mph. That's where they put the limiter on the GTO's (which come with a 200 mph speedo).

The SS with 420hp should be good for about 165 mph (maybe 170 with a tail wind) with the speed limiter removed.

But no matter where they put the limiter it can be tuned out.

158? really? well that stinks, i only got one up to 131 but wasn't aware of a governor. they're quoted @ 175-180, and i've seen videos of 186.

Did you know that some of the LS1 Camaros were electronically limited to only 110-115 mph.
They were the 4 speed automatic Camaros that came with the 2:73 gear ratio rear end and lower speed rated tires (touring tires). These Camaros were limited to around 110mph from the factory.

But that was easily removed with tuning (Superchips, Hypertech, or custom tuning from a tuner).

The top speed will be electronically controlled. It will be easily removed by tuning it out.
I've had to tune out my speed limiter on my 94z28, 99z28, 05 GTO, and 06 GTO.

It will take a little time (but not much). Trust me. Hypertech, Superchips, HP tuners, etc will be getting their hands on a new Camaro as soon as they can.

And we can also adjust rev limiter, shift points, torque managment, etc once we get our hands on a tuner.

And a good custom tune makes real nice increase in performance.

The speed limiter has absolutely nothing to do with the car's potential top speed. It is based on the speed rating of the factory tires. It is there to prevent the car from exceeding the tires capabilities and causing a disastrous tire failure at high speed. If the Camaro comes with Z rated tires (like the GTO) then expect a limiter to be around 160 (it will have one). Oh and I believe the Corvette does have a speed limiter.

The new Camaro is going to be extremely popular. The aftermarket for the new Camaro will be fast and furious.
They will all be trying to beat each other to market with new products.

Exhaust
Headers
Intakes
Tuning
Superchargers
etc.

And don't forget the LS3 is already in use in the Corvette. So there's no suprise as to what works and what doesn't. We just need specific mods for our application.

I was just making a point. I was talking about the LS1 Camaros 98-02 models.
Some of those camaros were electronically limited to 110mph because of the touring tires the car came with.
As mentioned, they had no choice but to limit the cars top speed because of the tires that model Camaro came with (the 2:73 geared automatics).

2002 Z28 Camaros (LS1) made 305 hp from the factory (GM claimed). But in reality they were making closer to 340 -350hp.
The 98-02 Camaros, firebirds, Trans Ams were very underrated from the factory.

As it has been stated the speed limiter is hidden in the ecu, and its cut off depends on the tire rating.

If you really want it gone RIGHT away, just take your new camaro over to the local tuning place, and tell them to get rid of it. Even if it is a brand new car, its really not that hard to hook a laptop up to the car's ECU and remove the speed limiter.
