Help?! Im freaking out?
So I have a 2012 Camaro SS/RS and it only has 4000 miles on it. Around the 3200 mark it started doing this thing where my engine will kind of lung down (or what it seems) at low RPMs when i go up hill. And also when i first start up my engine and drive around or just sit there the engine kind of seems jerky, (not real bad, just bad enough to where im bothered). The car drives fine as long as I drive it above 2000 rpms. But lower then that and it kind of lugs. I only put 93 octane in so it cant be the gas.
I also when to a dealership in my area bc im currently in college and he said that it is because the 2012s have an engine that switches from 4 cylinders to 8 cylinders depending on how you drive it. Does that seem right?? :( |

If you have the automatic then you have AFM (active fuel management) thats exactly what it does. There are ways to deal with it. Do a search on here and you will find other people complaining about it.

Yup, it switched to 4 cylinders.
One way to deal with it: step on the gas! Another way: use the paddle shifters. When you start out, shift from 2nd to 3rd, then back to 2nd. No more switch to 4 cylinders until you turn off manual mode. |

Lots of Chevy pick-up trucks with AFM are having problems. I'm assuming once people start getting up in mileage, they will too face the same problems. I had AFM in my '07 Silverado V-MAX and hated it. It actually decreased my mileage, not improve it. I sold that piece of shit, and bought an Escalade with the 6.2 which did not have AFM.

Hey, Bo Tie 1, That 76 in the pic. I had the same car minus the hood, back in 1985 that was my first car. I had to work up the money to buy the wheels it came with ralley. Great pic brings back memories. |
