it depends on the size of the asteroid and how soon its detected whether we could do anything about it. you dont have to blow it up to get rid of it. just nudge it out of the way. there are options, but if its too big or isnt detected soon enough... we're screwed. and you say the next thousand years. i dont see it taking that long for a decent sized one to hit. look at the tunguska impact. imagine if it would have occurred 12 hours later when the US was in the crosshairs. however, im not saying to freak out over all this stuff, just consider the inevitable.
I'd go with the feed starving children with the trillions first before spending it on research and development for "asteroid protection"...

I'd rather castrate the men over there to stop them from having sex like freaking jackrabbits first. its not the kids fault they are here, its the adults that brought them into this world that need to be held accountable.

as messed up as it sounds, it will get the job done. they dont need to be bringing more and more starving mouths into this world when they cant even keep themselves fed.

Nice, I see some of us just have the gift. Tried the roll eyes smilie a couple of times, but just came of sounding condescending. Bravo

Hey I'm all for the studies on alternative fuels - maybe they'll come up with something decent - and in the meantime - anytime I hear the groups come up with alternative anything - I invest in it. Figured even if I don't buy into all the global warming there are plenty who do and their money may just afford me my next Camaro - (Always a bright side to everything)
