Real world trumps the mag times. I've yet to see one stock 05-09 run in the 13s. I even talked to a guy who was running his just for fun and he was low 14s all night. He said he'd only gotten in the high 13s twice and that was just a fluke. Before all the people who like to say driver's don't matter pipe in with he couldn't drive, he also had a 9s car that he was going to race that weekend.

Again, in real life they aren't running 13.5-13.6 anywhere I've been. They are running low 14s (14.0-14.3) and the V6 Camaro (still haven't seen many stock ones at the track) are runing mid 14s (14.5-14.7). That's in the ball park for a V6 Camaro to take down a few V8 Mustangs. It explains why it happens sometimes. Maybe its the driver. Maybe the Mustang is more subject to heat soak (it is hot here most of the time the tracks are open). Maybe magazine times just aren't that reliable.

If we're talking "real world" then I guess the V6 Camaro is a 15 second car. I've seen three V6's run, and the fastest has been 14.98 @91 mph.

not to overstep here, or argue, just want to set the record straight.

please no one take this in the wrong way, i used to have an 08 gt 5spd car, bone stock i took it to the track with 300ish miles on it. my first pass ever was a 13.5@102.x after that with 1.9 60fts i ran 13.50's-13.40's @ 103 in 75ish degree air.

a stock 05-09 is capable of mid 13's, the thing is, most people will run high 13's and even into the 14's. the sad fact is that most people that buy sports cars cant drive them to their potential. thats how things are

So, what you're saying is exactly what we have been saying. For every 14.0-14.1 v6 camaro, there is a 13.4-13.5 3v gt. Neither are going to run that on average, but they're both capable of those numbers, that's a fact. It doesn't matter if you compare average vs average or hero run vs hero run, the GT is consistently the faster car by a fair margin, about half a second or so. From what YOU see, the v6 camaros are, on average, about a half second slower at the track. You just said that. That's a spanking my friend. A half second on the track is a bus. Sure, a v6 camaro can definitely take down a 3v gt under certain circumstances, but most of the time it won't and it shouldn't be a very close run with similar driving. The GT is considerably quicker. That's something a few of your brethren here refuse to accept.

Now before anyone quotes this post with some BS response, let me ask you to read the OP's question. Did he ask if the race could end up in favor of the camaro with some driving error in the mustang or a slow RT? Did he ask if he had a chance of winning against one? No, he asked which car is faster and the fact of the matter is, the GT is clearly a faster car. Whether or not the owner of the car can drive is irrelevant. The GT is quicker, period.

lol

I can understand the sarcasm, but come on you can't apply that logic to all of us V6 owners....pretty much everyone but the truly ignorant realize the GT is faster when you compare similarly equipped cars. I think the argument has turned into what times each car can run regularly, rather than who can beat who.

I'd love to have a friendly drag or roll with a stock 05 to 09 GT (preferably auto like mine!) out on the road sometime.

I would expect to get beaten even with my mods, but it would still be fun! If I was able to stay pretty close that would just be icing on the cake lol.

I am going to drive to Pikes Peak tomorrow, then I can know how it feels to drive around with 180 hp at 14,000 feet... I'm in Colorado springs(6500 feet above sea level) and it feels like I've lost 50-60 hp. A Camaro SS at pikes peak vs s197 at sea level would definetly be close. Rule of thumb is you lose 3% power every 1000 feet above sea level so Camaro SS would be making roughly 240-250 hp at pikes peak and might lose to a GT at sea level. I haven't seen a single 5g Camaro here, everyone drives an awd/4wd or fwd. I would bet money a base WRX has more hp than a Camaro SS at pikes peak, turbos don't lose power at altitude and sometimes the ecu overcompensates the boost and you are actually making more power than at sea level.

LOL, that high altitude sucks. I was there a few years ago and had an Avenger or something for a rental. I think it was a V6, but man, it was so slooooooow.

About the original topic, stock for stock, sure the GT is faster. Throw some mods on the Camaro and maybe it's still not quite as fast, but it might surprise a few GTs, maybe even take a few. Not bad for a V6. I know, once mods begin all bets are off, but just sayin' that a few mods on the V6 will get near GT (stock) performance. Mine's a DD, so I can live with that.

Haha, no worries my man, it was directed more to the biased/blind/in denial people.
