Fun car to drive
Picked up the car last Wednesday, what a fun car to drive, I been dealing with slightly low temps. I have been driving mostly in mode 3, unfortunately I have to go back to work tomorrow, I have been trying to respect the break in period.
I have about 400 miles so far but the temps keep dropping. The car seems to drive fine even with the temperature in the upper 30's through low 40's, I drive in the 30-40 MPH range until the tires heat up a little, in the afternoon the temperature been in the 50's. |

I drove mine back from northwest Arkansas early this morning after visiting my son - it was only 28 when I left this morning (cooler than I was expecting when I headed up there on Friday), but I took it extremely easy until the temps warmed up a bit. Tires did fine, but I didn't push it at all until it warmed up above 40.

Congrats!
I went to see mine today. She just arrived at the dealer. I pick her up on Wednesday after the storm has subsided. I'm looking at the pics I took today and have that same feeling... can't believe she's mine.

You are definitely in for a treat, just try to enjoy it as much as possible before it gets to cold for the tires.

Your ZL1 looks great! I've been driving in the hi 30's/low 40 temps as well. Work the night shift, get out anywhere between 2 and 4 am. So it's getting kinda cold, day time/afternoons its in the 50's when I go to work, but I've noticed when I get out of work in the early am hours, just barely touching the gas the tires spin like crazy. Takes a good 20 minutes for them to heat up and the tire pressure to start climbing. Tire pressure is around 29/30 in the wee cold hours, 31/32 warm afternoons, but 20/25 minutes into my ride they reach 35/36 psi. Then they start to stick like glue, usually take my u shaped exit at 75mph and try not to touch the brakes. The problem at nite is dew/condensation from the temp change. A very thin layer of moisture on the road and the closer to that 32 degree mark, the slipperier it gets. Anyway, I'm sure you're having a blast breaking-in your new ZL1. I try to do a 100 miles in each mode. Touring, sport, and each PTM. Misting out last Sunday, the beginning of hurricane sandy, so I tried out PTM 1, wet conditions, "the nanny" mode. Interfered plenty, but it was still a lot of fun even though I didn't tach it over 4,000. Good luck with your new ride, looks like we're both trying to get thru the break-in period before winter set in.
You can see the security shack (top right corner) thought the blue lights were going to chase me out of there for sure, snapped a couple photos and got the heck out of there! Probably wouldn't appreciate me driving across their lawn. |
