Z/28 vs 1LE thoughts

What’s everyone’s opinion on the 2015 Z/28 vs a 2017 1LE. Anybody owned both or have driven both? I like the idea of the ls7 and the dssv suspension but the new LT1 and mag ride is strong. Both can fit about the same tire size front and rear, similar brakes. Other than a warranty, prices are close being used on the z28 vs new .. so thoughts?

I hate to say it, but the sixth gen 1LE wins it for me.
Half the initial cost, same if not better performance, better fuel mileage.
Just a better platform.

Z/28 only wins if your looking for potential collectability. The SS 1LE wins at everything else. Same performance with less power, cheaper brakes, cheaper tires, more adjustability, better interior, more sophisticated aids such as perf traction management, E-LSD, and perf. data recorder.

I waited for the 2017 SS 1LE and don't regret it one bit. Not to mention that I can daily the SS 1LE where as the Z/28 would've been a huge compromise to daily.

Z/28 for a track only car, 1LE if you want to drive it daily as well.

Yep exactly the 15 Z/28 which I have driven is NOT A DAILY DRIVER period. That car is strictly trailer to track, drive it, trailer back home. Cost a hella lot more and has the same if not slower track times as the 6th gen 1LE (depends on driver mod). I have owned several 2nd and 3rd gen Z/28's and thought that is what I wanted until I drove the 6th gen 1LE. No comparison and the cost difference is a no brainer unless like mjk3888 said if you are buying something to put on a 4 post lift and gain value, then get the 6th gen 1LE.

I would choose a 1LE over a Z/28 even for a dedicated track car. The 6th gen chassis is really a different animal. While a professional can manage similar times in each car, I strongly believe the novice will have more fun and be faster in the 1LE.

It should be pointed out that while on some tracks the 1LE is able to get near the z/28s lap times, on other tracks this isn't the case. After all at VIR the Z/28 has a lap time of 2:50.90 while the 2017 SS 1LE Camaro has a lap time of 2:54.80 there.

With that being said if you wanted a car that can be used as a daily driver and a track car then the only choice really is the 1LE Camaro. If you wanted a track car and you were not going to slippery tracks then Z/28, otherwise 1LE. Anyway you look at it the real winner is the 6th generation 1LE as it can be used as a dedicated track car and a dedicated street car something that $75,000 couldn't get you with the Z/28.

Do the LS7s on the Z28 suffer from the same valve issues as the C6 Z06 Vettes?

Look at the price of replacement rotors for each... then decide.

SS 1LE doesn't get near the Z28's lap times, it beats them same race car driver (Randy Pobst), similar conditions

The problem with the VIR tests by Car and Driver is, different editors drive different cars so lap times will fluctuate as a result of it, also I am not sure if east coast tracks are as consistent as CA tracks.

OP, I would take the 1LE any day,

The lightning lap times are about as precise as controlled as a game of Russian Roulette! They don't even run the same driver. Imagine if you were testing one car and I were testing the other. Who ever has the fastest lap, it doesn't necessarily mean they have the fastest car.

Also, imagine the Z/28 without those trofeo R's or the 1LE with R compound tires! Bottom line is the 1LE is a much better platform! The Z/28 ultimately was the ultimate lipstick on a pig fix. Best pig we've ever seen, but still a dressed up pig. That's why the 1LE can do just as much with less power, less sticky tires, steel brakes, and still have a backseat, A/C, Performance Data Recorder, and Apple Car Play! That's just on a 1SS! If you get a 2SS 1LE, add heated and vented seats, dual zone CC, blind spot monitoring, available built in Nav. Also lets not forget that GM will honor the warranty on the SS 1LE even if something fails on track!

So even if you are a hard core track guy, I still think the SS 1LE is your best option. Consumables are lower so you can track more often for less money and it leaves a lot more room for improvements with mods than the Z/28 does. Get a dedicated set of R compound tires for the track and I doubt you will have any issue dusting off a Z/28 if the drivers are even.

Wholeheartedly disagree with that.
