I understand that x11 doesnt necessarily mean that the car is an SS. However, i have heard from a couple of different sources that if it has the x11 AND the third digit in the VIN is a 4 (which denotes a v8) then it is a true SS car.

Does this jive with your experiences?

X-11 and having a V8 don't make it a true SS. X-11 was a trim package that you could order with a base Camaro. While it could be an SS there are other things that you need to confirm it to be a true SS.

My dad was looking at a base 69 camaro about a year ago. It had the base 307 in it but had X-11 on the trim tag. Not sure it was the original motor but i think it was.

I do not have the protecto plate. I understand these are really hard to come by.

so, without a protecto plate and original engine and tranny, this car is unidentifiable?

When I bought my 69 RS/SS I was SPECIFICALLY looking for a car without matching numbers. I wanted to drive it without worrying about mileage or breaking some irreplaceable original part. IMHO, your price is fair for a non matching car that needs a little TLC.

I appreciate your input and vote of confidence. This may just be the worst time in three or four years (given the market fluctuations, used car prices, and gas prices) to sell a car like this.
