Rename the Z28?
I may get stoned for this but here goes......
By now everyone here has heard of the Boss 302. Back in the day the Z28 was originally crafted as a limited edition to allow the Chevy 302 to road race. It was a direct competitor to the Boss 302. Now even if you do not like Mustangs you have to admit the Boss 302 is a cool car. More of a road race slant on the Mustang. So why can't Chevy compete with Ford? The Camaro has a stouter chassis that the mustang and can go head to head with it at the road tracks. My idea is to save the Z28 name for a Boss 302 competitor. My Z28 would have;
Then we rename the planned Z28 to ZL1. That name is legendary, way more so than Z28. We go head to head with the Boss 302 and GT500. Would the ZL1 name disappoint anyone? |

I like your idea on what the vehicle should have on it (especially the LS7), however, I too would like it to stay a Z28.

This topic has been debated several times here and rumor has it in GM too. The determination was made that the Z28 brand is too important to Camaro to be left from the 5th Gen lineup. We'll soon find out.
As we can see from this thread alone the Z28 brand and heritage is just as important to the buyer as whats under the hood. There are those who get caught up in the Z28 formula and trueness to the cars 1st Generation heritage. And that a 4000lb supercharged uber expensive Camaro is as far from Z28 heritage as anyone can get. Some think the use of the Z28 name on the majority of the years since 1969 was blasphemy. For as many Camaro fans there are that many opinions... I suppose only GM marketing is the one that counts.

Z28 is way cooler and the Boss 302 was Fords answer to the Z28.

SLP is using ZL* but not ZL1.....
ZL1, and the famous COPO 427 cars weren't built for road course, they were made for the drag strip. Z/28 and boss 302 were road course cars. The Z/28 is the more valuable name, even over ZL1. The Shelby name is Fords money maker. Z/28 was diluted over the years, much like the 1LE, in that it was originally designed for a specific purpose, I hope GM gets back to the Z/28 roots.
