Transfer to dealer

Hey everyone, I've been lurking on the site for a while but can finally say I'm going to get a 5th gen.

I'm graduating highschool in the next month or so and my parents have decided to get me a new car. I've spent the last couple weeks looking for cars in my state but can't find anything I like that is in my price range. I've found several cars in other states that are perfect. Now my question is can anyone give me a ballpark guess of how much it would be to get a car transferred to a dealer that is closer or if that's even a possibility?

Thanks for the help in advance.

They shouldn't even charge you if they are wanting to make the sale. Mine got brought into texas from michigan.... Kinda far to say the least and I didn't get charged anything at all. I also got one as a graduation present

I believe dealers can work that out between them and it should not cost you.

Close to 800 if they even want to let that car go off the lot if it's used I doubt they will new ones they might consider it and if the dealers are opening lots to eachother it might not cost

Okay sweet. I guess I'll just get ahold of our dealer and see what they think. Also, is there a way I can search the inventory of my entire state? A website that has them all together maybe? Or is that another thing that needs to be taken up with the dealer? I've just gone to the websites of the major dealerships in Indiana but I don't want to miss out on one that could be in the state.

Your salesman has access to all that information. They can locate the vehicle you want, many times with the exactly options, though the color may be different. Many dealerships form pacts, that is if another dealer has a car the other dealer wants, they will swap one of their cars for the other. I'm retired, and that's what I do to earn extra spending money. My dealer will call me and say they need me to go to such and such dealer to pick up a car. So, I drive the swap vehicle to the other dealer, and drive the traded vehicle back. We have a 1,000 mile radius that we work in. Anything farther, and the vehicle we want gets shipped. But the buyer pays the shipping cost from the other dealer.

Last summer when I was looking for my car I went to all of the dealerships within an hour of my house (6 of them) I told them exactly what I wanted. They can pull up a list of all the available new cars within a set radius of them. If I remember right, I had them look within 300 miles of the dealership and there was one that was a 100% match, and two or three more that close to being the exact car. If you and your parents go in and talk to them you can also get a feel for how they will treat you during the sale. I felt that the dealership was being honest, respectful and gave me a good deal, so I wanted to buy from them even though they were the furthest one from my house. Just remember, never be afraid to walk out.

I've heard GREAT things about BeckyD here on the forums! If she can't swing you a deal, I bet she can at least point you (and your folks) in the right direction....

The dealers can initiate a trade with each other and it should cost you nothing...but they have to agree on the exchange. I got my Camaro from a dealer 300+ miles away...I believe I lost the first one because they couldn't agree on the right exchange.

This indeed. BeckyD at Rodgers Chevrolet is very well known in this forum for her great attitude and ability to help others get the car they want for a price both parties can win on.

Becky got mine for me from God only knows where. And I don't think it cost me anything. I just told her what I wanted and she made magic happen. Awesome experience.

AmericanMuscle33, the others have told you what you really need to know, so heres what I have to say about that......

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
