I was 17 when I got my 2011 1LT. I am perfectly happy with it and have never complained since. I am 19 now and haven't gotten in any accidents or any tickets. (Knocked on wood) Honestly I feel like I have become a wiser driver with the Camaro as my first car. I say get him the 2LT and later if he wants to upgrade he can. I eventually do plan on upgrading to a SS, but I will still keep my 1LT. It was my first car and I will pass it on to my kids one day. In the end you know your son the best.

Both of my kids got a disposable car for the first year, and then a nice car. Remember, not only is your son a new driver, everyone else in the school parking lot is a new driver.

If I got it the camaro would be automatic so 400 horsepower for the ss. I'm not worried about the price. My agency figured only 192$ a month for insurance and 197 for the zl1. Was actually shocked and did some figuring that gas would be about 2,000 dollars a year so cost to own is not much. I just hope he will be happy with it cause once you get it you keep it.
you hope he will be happy with it....are you kidding

Of course he will be happy with a CAMARO! Just get him a Bugatti Veryon Super Sport! I don't know. Why even ask! Whatever... I don't know what to say!

If you're going to spoil him you might as well go all out. Personally... I think buying a powerful car for a kid who is just learning to drive is INSANE! It takes a couple of YEARS just to learn how to shift, brake, respond properly to emergency situations, etc. and you want to hand him the keys to a Camaro? But it's your kid and your money - good luck.

He'd definitely be the cool kid at school with a SS.

What they already said, you know him better, and kids are different, I had a friend with a '69 SS Chevelle, he babied it, didn't haul a$$ at all. On the other hand, I drove every car I was given to it's limit, hence I flipped one and wrecked several others.

Now that I'm a little older, and not wiser, but mildly less stupid, I recall what another kid, I didn't know well, had to do. His dad bought him the car, the kid had to get a job and pay the insurance and any tickets. The deal was if the kid got tickets and his insurance went up to where he couldn't pay it, he lost the car. Today that sounds like an ok plan to me.

I definitely would say 2LT considering new driver & age. Then after a couple of years driving that he can trade up to an SS, plus it gives him something to work for.

Can't help but feeling jealous, I'm 16 and the only way I was able to get my 1LS was paying for it myself! A lot of work lol..... Anyways, I think it's really cool what you're doing for your son, but maybe it would be a good idea to somehow make him work for it, and in the end the car will be worth more to him... Everything shouldn't come that easy in life, I worked since I was 12 to get mine

I would say he needs a good old Matador with tires Mounted all over it to give additional protection, Painted bright yellow of course...And a big sign on top saying Student driver...High insurance rates...crash risk...Maybe some flashing yellow lights too.........

A wise and responsible young man. This is how it should be. Good for you.
