Am I missing something? [pricing for LFX turbos/supercharger]
This past week I've been doing some reading. It seems the cheapest options for a turbo and/or supercharger for the 3.6L LFX are $5,000 plus install/tuning, but most are $6,000+.
I realize there's engineering costs involved in making these. Just seems like a lot. Or is this a case of 'captive audience'? |

Simple supply and demand. Low demand, low supply. High demand, high supply. Cost is inversely proportional, too.
My point is the V6 isn't the SS - less people want boost, so there's less kits, less interests, more costs.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I'd do it in a heartbeat. $6k plus install/tune is just too much. Like many have said before, just get a SS for that extra cost. I guess that answers my question - no, I'm not missing anything. :( |

My turbos are almost $1,500 each. Yes, I know the ones on the IPS kit aren't that much but they probably have 2 grand or more just in the turbos. Then there's the intercooler, piping, oil and cooling line/fittings and licenses for the tuning software. It adds up quick. I wouldn't put a $3K turbo kit on a 1970s VW Beetle, I sure wouldn't put one on my nearly new 5th gen.

However, I do agree the prices are a little excessive. I feel these kits would be an easy sell in the mid to high 4k range, low 5k range... |

Agreed. I would buy FI in that range two times over without thinking twice. |

I'm with Gretchen, I don't want some cheap ebay turbo kit on my brand new car. |

And one would hope that expertise that comes with the install, and the tune that is supposedly vetted.
Even worse than spending 6k on a FI system would be to grenade the motor with a bad tune. Rich |

(Side note, I don't know why anyone would get the V6 and then trade it in -lose money- and get an SS which has the power but no gas mileage... why'd you get the V6 in the first place? I got mine to boost it. Lol)

For Centrifugal Superchargers the bracket that holds the head unit can be expensive itself, has to be custom machined.

It would be interesting to know who would tune the LFX and what would be the power output???

Lot's of people are tuning the LFX. Power output depends on the mods, but a stock one can pickup ~20+RWHP from just the tune.
