I just love how people complain about "your tax dollars at work", when 1) sorry, but I don't see much wrong with police having semi-nice vehicles, especially since we ride in them far longer than anyone else rides in a car, save perhaps for some salesmen, taxi drivers, and truck drivers (and semi trucks are often close to 6 figures), 2) you REALLY don't pay that much toward that car yourself, maybe $1/month (don't really know, but it's barely noticeable), and 3) Hollywood people make tons of money (FAR more than cops) and drive exotic cars, but I don't see too many people boycotting movie theaters or Blockbuster... Sorry, little well-deserved rant from a law enforcement officer on behalf of all of us out there. Oh, not to mention the job we perform for well below what we deserve... Please don't mistake this as a defense for police corruption though. I know it's out there, and I see it even in my own agency in ways, although not necessarily financial...
All that aside, very nice cruiser. I certainly wouldn't mind having that for mine.

There is a city just north of Atlanta called Doraville. It's still in the metro Atlanta area..but they have the nicest police fleet I have ever seen in any state. For traffic they have all Impala SS's,Mustangs GT's,Charger and Magnum SRT-8's, Camaro's and Corvette's..and just a few crown vicks...but get this they are all Black on black..limo tint all the way around on most of them

Our community decided to pay $3000 per car MORE for the Crown Vic over the Impala. I had letters from various police chiefs saying the gas savings was about $3-5000 per car WITH the impala. I was the only person that voted against it.
I was also told officers would have to be "retrained" to FWD cars...True, but thats a certification that takes place yearly here, and is not an issue. I was then told another community had to put three transmissions in their impalas. Well, since we service them, I checked on that statement...they did...back in 2001 - and now there is 5yr/100K even on police cars. We've had no issues with serviced impala's 2006 and newer. A former police chief that works as a driver for us said yes, but we also replaced an engine in a crown vic a year ago for another community. They said the impala wasn't comfortable enough, even though communities across the USA are using them. I ended the argument that I thought it was our responsibility as elected officials to spend less tax money, and take the lowest bid - thus the whole purpose for the bidding process. I said next year, since we're buying for COMFORT and NOT PRICE, we should just give the bids to the nearest Cadillac dealer and go all out. |

Just curious. How does one place a perp in the back? Just truss them up and stuff them in the trunk?

What a waste. Maybe a 1SS for an interceptor, but it looks like all the options. I think the impound idea is wishful thinking.. Maybe Corzine can drive that one and wreck it, this time he won't be as lucky.
If all law enforcement was like Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Maricopa County, I'd be more accepting, but alas I don't get that feeling across the country. Don't get me wrong, Law Enforcement deserves respect, but they need to remember who they work for too......
