PF48e vs other filters
Does anyone have any experience with the PF48e filters? I got one for the first time today and the pressed-in threads and plastic internals threw up a few red flags with me. Seems to be a bit fragile for a high performance engine so I want to know if anyone has had any issues with them, I'm a little more than OCD about car maintenance and prefer to use OE filters but the idea of trusting my engine to a filter with plastic insides and thin case walls awash in hot oil seems a bit iffy to me.

If you can find them get the PF48. The PF48e is an eco-friendly filter that sucks.

Yes the "E" core filters are plastic inside, try and find the none e cores if you can.

PF48R is about the best filter for the money if your local market is saturated with the 48e as mine is.

If you want to solve your filter needs for a long time, buy a case of Wix/Napa Gold from these guys and be done with it.

I've been using the PF48 since new. Now I also can't find any anywhere. Really don't want to order any off the internet, never know what your getting. I have been using the ACDelco e core oil filters on my Buick and Silverado for years now and have never had a problem. I guess the new Camaro SS cars come from the factory with a PF48E filter. So I do believe I will just go ahead and start using the PF48E filter.

What's wrong with PF48e? I can see that the internal structure is plastic, but so what? Lot's of stuff on the engine is plastic.

Wondering same. The e is supposed to be better for high temps since it has no adhesive. The plastic core looks like it would allow more flow than the metal core with tiny holes. I went with a Wix XP for now.

I use a Napa Platinum 47060, its basically a WIX filter with Napa's name on it. Why do I use this filter over the OE filters? Its because there's a magnet in the center bore to collect ferrous particulates and the media is composed of a steel reinforced synthetic one.
Instead of me rehashing my "theory of all things filters", be sure to check out the link below and look for the posts from "JFT69Z" (the ones with the pictures). http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-upf48r-2.html |

Plastics, especially cheap ones like the ones inside this filter break down when exposed to high temps which is one reason I am unsure about using them, the other is that I don't trust the press in threads. I wound up going with a K&N filter, it seems to be near identical to the PF48's and has the "ZZ" stamp on it.

Changed my oil over 2 weeks ago and used the PF48E filter. 900 miles later, no difference, no problems, everything is fine.
