E85 Fuel

I'm wondering if the Z28 is designed to run on it, and if so does it increase the HP?

Thanks,

Alcohol requires MUCH more fuel to produce power. A buddy once ran a pure alky car on the street. He got about 3 miles per gallon...but it was a 13:1 compression 468 C.I. street monster .

+1000, E85 is a waste of food and you will get less MPG and most likely less HP! FYI, the higher the Octane the less alcohol that you have!

Go look at the 2014 silverado and the HP gains it has on E85 per GM. It adds an additional 20. Not saying this is typical for other vehicles just an example

On my 09 Suburban I tried E85 maybe 10 times and each time the fuel mileage was so far down it was never worth the cost savings.

Alcohol produces less energy when it is burned so you have to burn more to get the same power as gasoline. Alcohol has a higher resistance to detonation so you can run higher compression and make more power.

It has to get tuned for it, then yes the HP will increase.

Its not just the tuning. Ethanol doesn't always play nicely with the rubbers & plastics found in most fuel systems. Tends to be corrosive. Cars that are E85 capable are built to accept ethanol in high concentrations. Most production cars are not, their limit tends to be about E20 or E25 before it starts to affect them.
