v6 gears
Hi everybody I had a question about gears on the lfx. I have a 2012 lfx and its an automatic and I was wondering what are the best gears that I can put in for the best performance. I came across some 3:55 but i cant remember I those would work with the automatic. I have also heard of people using 3:45 and I was wondering how much of a performance increase you can really feel. And is it really worth the money for the gears and the install?
thanks!

3.55 gears are currently the ONLY direct swap in gears for the auto v6 rear end. People you read about with 3.45s, or anything for that matter other than 3.55, have swapped a complete SS rear end into their car, which there is many more gear options available.
Going from your current 3.27 gear to a 3.55 would be like having appx. 8.5% more torque. |

More torque?
How much is this V6 gear swap cost?

Gears (new cost appx $550), minimum of a half install kit ($70, but possibly a full install kit depending on condition of rear end, up to $250), plus labor unless you are experience with setting up gears.
Rough guess, $1000-1300. Then you would also need a tune to correct the speedometer reading. |

Where? I've never seen 3.91 gears for the 7.6" IRS rear end that an automatic v6 Camaro is equipped with. I have only seen them for the 8.6" rear that comes in the SS cars.

No one said you couldn't swap in an SS rear end and then install some 3.91s... They are just not made for the stock 7.6" IRS that comes in the v6 a6 cars... No doubt about it you can install an SS rear with these gears. If you do happen to know where I can get some for a 7.6" rear, feel free to post the part number.

3.91s in an SS differential or the manual V6 differential only. I've done it, I know what it takes to do it in an Auto V6. SS diff, axles, wheel hubs and back half of the SS driveshaft, tune for the speedometer. I'm only at 250 miles so far on the gear break in, so 250 more and I'll let you know how it feels. IneedAZ already has the gears in his car. So maybe he will chime in here too.

Without doing a full rear end swap, 3.55 is the only option for the V6 A6 7.6" IRS. Swapping to the 3.55s provides an equivalent torque gain of approximately 10% or 27 ld.-ft. of torque and will only raise 70 MPH cruising RPM to 1950. If you don't notice a 10% improvement in torque......
