My front tires have a few thousand miles left. The rears have about 1500 miles on them (Brand new, Goodyear F1)

Exactly what he said!

If it should rain, drive the car like there's an eggshell on the gas pedal and you're not allowed to break it.

use rain mode. Driving back from Florida I got caught in some pretty heavy rain in Tennessee. PTM1 + driving very cautiously still was scary at times. Even if you're out of the throttle, remember these tires will hydroplane very quickly from what I experienced.

Wet mode is very needed, especially in turns. Makes it very fun in the rain! No kidding.

I believe the PTM modes are meant for driving on the race track under different conditions, track conditions, driver experience, etc. Plain old tour mode limits slip, yaw, etc. Just like any car with traction control and stability control. Or turn it off and get on it and learn to control the slide when it happens. Haven't you guys driven pre 90's cars on gravel roads?

I haven't driven mine much in the rain, but I have been led to believe that in PTM 1 the stabilitrac and traction control will attempt to activate before they detect any slippage. In the few times I have been in the rain I have used PTM 1 and I drive it like a granny.

I take the way these two excerpts ↓↓↓ from the 2013 Owner's Manual

Quote:
Competitive Driving Mode
Competitive Driving Mode, Performance Traction Management (PTM), and Launch Control are systems designed to allow increased performance while accelerating and/or cornering. This is accomplished by regulating and optimizing the engine, brakes, and suspension performance. These modes are for use at a closed course race track and are not intended for use on public roads. They will not compensate for a driver’s inexperience or lack of familiarity with the RACE TRACK. Drivers who prefer to allow the system to have more control of the engine, brake, and suspension are advised to turn the normal TCS and StabiliTrak systems on.
and

Quote:
Performance Traction Management (PTM) (ZL1 Coupe Only)
PTM integrates the TCS, StabiliTrak, and Selective Ride Control systems to provide improved and consistent performance when cornering.
to mean that PTM1 is intended for when you're "playing". It's a performance driving mode that allows you to use a little more power than Stabilitrak would otherwise allow.

PTM1 is not a setting that provides greater stability above and beyond whatever ST is defaulted to when you first start the car.

The OM goes even further in describing the conditions that PTM1 is intended for.

Quote:
PERF TRACTION 1 – WET / ACTIVE HANDLING ON
. Intended for all driver skill levels.
. Wet or damp conditions only — not intended for use in heavy rain or standing water.
. StabiliTrak is on and engine power is reduced based on conditions.
In my honest opinion, it's a shortcoming in the OM text that the description for PTM1 does not include the word "track" like the other four do. Keep in mind that PTM1 is not specifically excepted in the basic description of the PTM modes (refer to the first quote above).

Please, please, PLEASE do not assign capability to the electronic vehicle controls that they do not possess. Read the OM for what it intends, not just little isolated pieces taken out of context the way you'd like them to mean.

Dammit, if you're going to use all of the various electronic aids that Chevy has made available to you, and the options within them - at least have the good sense to use them correctly.

I, unfortunately got a chance to test out the PTM1 wet driving mode, on MT ET Streets last weekend coming back from Dallas. I can assure you there's nothing "performance" about that mode. As soon as the tires start to break loose, engine power is extremely cut back. Sound and felt like I was running on 3 cylinders.

In absolute terms, no it wouldn't be much performance. But it should have more than if you were not in PTM at all.

I imagine that your ET Streets had something to do with how hard it stepped in.
