What is wrong with 2010-2011 SS?

I have recently started my search for a 5th gen that I plan to use for my daily driver, currently to replace a 2012 Civic Si.

I have been looking for 2010-2011 SS, 6 speed manual with 25k miles or less. There aren't too many available on auto trader in my area (New Hampshire), but of those that are I have noticed an unsettling trend: these cars have been sitting on dealer lots for a very long time.

I was wondering what you think may contribute to this trend? They seem to be fairly priced when compared to Edmunds or KBB book values, some even significantly below, but then when you look at the Carfax data nearly all the cars have been for sale for 6-12 months.

My thought is that they are too expensive for lower budget people to have for a third car, but also too expensive for others that don't feel comftorable with spending so much without a warranty.

Why do you think these are sitting on lots so long? Good opportunity for a great deal?

See below for a couple examples:
25k miles, within couple hundred of Edmunds, on dealer lots since June 2014:

21k miles, priced around Edmunds, on dealer lots since September:

I paid $24k for a fully loaded 2SS/RS with minor mods and only 9500 miles back in November. If the Carfax is clean and they'll come down a few $k on either you'd be good.

Nice, good to hear.

I am going to check out 3 cars tomorrow, the two noted below and a 2011 1SS SGM with 2500 miles, asking price $27k

The first two are the same dealership and they actually set me up with the sales manager to check out the cars, I have a feeling they really want them to move along at this point.

Looking forward to getting back into a Camaro, I had a 4th gen (2001 SS) in college, sold it to buy my now wife an engagement ring, miss that car bad haha, and so does my wife.

Everyone around here seems to think I'm crazy with New England winters, but who cares? Cars are meant to be driven.

I personally wouldn't want a 2010-2011 because of the small changes made in 2012 like the steering wheel, dash, suspension, etc. Also because the first year runs usually have more problems.

The first thing that comes to mind is you mentioned your location as New Hampshire. When was the last snow / cold day in your area? People don't typically test drive or buy cars (especially sports cars) in the winter. Honestly, there are less car sales overall in the winter and dealers around me dump their sports car / two door vehicles for front or all wheel drive sedans, trucks and SUV's which they feel have a better chance of selling.

Another factor is loans and warranty. Most people won't go much older than 2010 because 5 years old is really close to the tail end of what many institutions will loan on without crazy interest.

The black car (first link) looks nice but the silver one (non RS package in the second link) seems to have an identity crisis. I think there are photos from at least two different vehicles, one black V6 and one silver V8 in that set.

I didn't look at the carfax for either car.

I prefer the RS look myself and found manual V8 RS cars with the equipment and colour I wanted difficult to locate in my area for a price I wanted to pay - so I traveled for it.

Sounds like it's time to wheel and deal on the black one if there is nothing wrong with it. Good luck on your search.

To start, you are in New Hampshire...which isn't exactly a state known for its great weather. Second, both cars you listed are manuals, which believe it or not, sit on lots longer than most autos....

I personally wouldn't buy a 2010, but a 2011 is fine. Those prices aren't really bad..but again, it all depends on whether you have a second vehicle to drive in the winter...

I would also check and see if anyone is selling a Camaro privately. My experience showed that the private sellers always had nicer cars compared to those on dealer lots. Nothing wrong with the 2010's other than being 5 years old now.

Oh wow never knew there was a suspension upgrade for the 2012. I also wouldn't really consider going from a costume camaro steering wheel(2010-2011) to a chevy cruze wheel(2012+) to be an upgrade but okay. Lol

This is actually going to be my primary vehicle (crazy I know). Financially we could easily afford it as a third vehicle, but we currently live in a condo complex that limits residents to two cars per household. I figure a nice set of Scorpions or Blizzaks and I'll make it okay.

I'm not concerned about financing, less than 50% of the car value is going to be financed, and our credit scores/household income is well above what any bank would be concerned about, though for budgeting/saving for house purposes our goal is to keep the price $25/26 or less.

I did notice the identity crisis on the silver one - it appears to me that they included stock photos.

The first thing I thought of was that since it is NH these cars don't sell in the winter, but I have seen a number of them that have been on lots since June/July of last year. Snow and cold is still in our area...just snowed 3" the other night actually.

Would be nice to get one privately, I have been scanning craigslist for NH & MA, and other classified for several weeks. Only issue is a lot of the private party folks around here seem to have astronomical ideas as to what their camaro is worth, it's an auto, or it has higher mileage. I am definitely continuing to keep my eyes open though.

It was a very minor revision of the rear lower control arm connecting point. It was made to upgrade the ZL1 sway bar setup and the change was roll down to all 2012 cars but the sway bar size are still the same on the SS. So Not much to brag about or feel the difference on the SS...unless you upgrade it with the GMPP 1LE track pack !! :-)

The suspension change is very minor. To me, the new wheel looks and feels better and would have been another thing I'd want to change if I had a 10-11.

TO me the 2010 is the car to get. The original gen5 spectacle on wheels.
