No chance that Camaro will access the GenV smallblock by Feb 2013. Although I'm happy to share what I can with you guys, that's all I can say about that.
I have heard 6th gen as a 2016 model year too, mostly to deal with then CAFE standards, but depending on the the release of the GenV V8's we may not need to switch to the Alpha frame if sales are still great for the 5thgen.

I also dont think its that much of a stretch to think we can get a Z28 with a GenV V8 6 months after the vette does.

STOP DREAMING!!!

If we have any chance of getting a 5Gen Z28 *oss competitor, it has to be an LS7. Based on time and whatever else. Yeah it cost a few thousand more, but think of it a 427 Z28!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why do you say it HAS to be a LS7???

maybe GM has something else in mind, a new engine, the rumoured twin-turbo V6, who knows....

Thank you for your support.
I can honestly say I have no idea. I believe very little, but as Fbodfather says, "I don't remember seeing him in any of our meetings" so that is only a pure 100% opinion.

Beaten to death. TT V6 = LS3 on it's best day. And weight of 3 more camshafts, Turbo and intercooler make up for much of the weight reduction. Look at the Ford Truck engine. It's just barely an LS3 if at all. It just gets FE.........................wait new rumor. Z28 for 28 mpgs.

BTW, what is this? It looks purrrrrrty in red.

there are plenty of people with GT-Rs that would walk all over you and your LS3 with their TT V6 so I'm not sure where you are getting your info from....

and what does the ford truck engine have to do with it? its a truck engine not a sports car engine.

all i'm trying to say is there are many other options out there besides the LS7 for a potential Z28 model and I hope that GM considers all the options.

So are you saying this Z28 should now cost $90,000 or are you saying it should be AWD.

That "truck engine" is a critical comparison. Displacement and turbo equals a certain HP range. You can use the Taurus Sho/Truck engine as a good baseline for what you can expect in a reasonably priced car.

And you do know the LS3 is for all intents and purposes, also in a truck?

Realistically, you can hear V6 TT and think 530 HP GTR all you want.............................just make sure you add some $$$ to got with it.

You're comparing a hand-built supercar engine to a production line engine. Considering the source(s) of his information, I'd say they're pretty reliable. Check it out...

So a TT V6 is going to be cheaper than LS3 in a relatively low volume model? I'm not good at math, but There's no way to get Z28 in that price range in a car that's going to be sold on through a dealership with a factory warranty.

Not going to happen! More likely it will sit between 2SS and ZL1. And as far as your V6 Z/28 vision.......

That isn't happening, plain and simple. Especially if you want a V6 like whats in the GTR. Giving a base LSCamaro an engine like Fords Ecoboost might get you into that price point. But the added weight of everything involved now makes it weigh as much (or more) than an SS. On top of that, now you don't have the improved suspension (or grippy tires) from the SS so it would handle worse than the V8 car. Its throttle responce wouldn't be as good either. It wouldn't be as powerful as the V8 car, though torque could be comparable.

All in all, you'd have a car that is all around worse than an SS (except perhaps in fuel economy) for no obvious benefit. More importantly, it wouldn't have the handling that enthusiasts expect from a Z28.
