$1074? Am I getting screwed?

Got quoted by a Chevy body shop as follows today...

$430 for a LT bumper unpainted
$140 for paint materials
5 hours of labor at $42/h to paint it
$90 for a new absorber (behind bumper)

There are some other charges I forgot but it comes out to $1074 to replace my bumper that has limited damage done to the left side. No hidden damage.

So I ask you all, is that accurate or not?

Thanks.

sounds right.

This repair was over $600:

Actually it was over $1100 but I got a new tire too.

Guy in other lane ran over a chunk of metal. It flew up off the road and into my lane when the car had 300 miles.

Sounds about right.. labor isn't all that bad either. Most around here charge $50-$75 /hr

Alright, just thought it seemed a little high..
For some reason I remember reading about a guy who did an LT to SS bumper conversion for $700.

What are some good after marker bumpers to look at?

Yes. I duplicated your repair in my estimating system and it comes out very similar.

Only issue I see with it is if they're going to take 5 hours to paint a bumper, they've got some painting issues, unless it's only prep, prime and paint time... don't let them charge you for the time the painter is watching the paint dry.

I don't see how this is excessive? That's what the system allows. 3.4 for base / 1.4 for clear. Seems about right for me. And that doesn't include time for color tinting and wet sanding either which their estimate does not reflect.
