Help me pick my Stealth Cam
After a lot of reading and comparing I located the cams above as some of the most stealthy sounding cams. Don't get me wrong: I love the lope of a cammed car but for this project it is very important that the car sounds as stock as possible. The most important points are:
- No lope. The car should not sound camed. - Gains under the curve. To me the lower and mid powerband is most important. Based on the specs above and your experience - which cam sounds the most stealthy? And which one shows the best gains in the lower and mid powerband? P.S: I decided to ditch the following Cams. Although they are very nice cams with good reputation they have at least one criterion which doesn't fit my needs. - LS9 Cam...........................(Although the idle is as stealthy as it can get - the gains are just to small) - Lingenfelter GT11..............(First this was my favorite cam - but the lifts just seems to extreme) - LG Motorsports G6XE.........(To less information - no soundclips available) - JRE Smooth Idle Cam.........(Nice Cam and the support from Ted is outstanding. However after listening to some ............................................youtube clips I realised that there is still some lope) Last edited by mike.nite; 03-23-2012 at 05:34 PM. |

Your going to tell it's not stock even with those cams but not very noticeable. Why no lope?

Get the best Cam for hp/tq and have your tuner take care of the lope...

Absolutely a good tuner can smooth it out very nicely. Check with Ted Jannetty and you maybe able to get a cam + tune to go with it.

which cam sounds the most stealthy?
Crane has a specific cam in what you are seeking.....also if you are looking for stealthy noise, an exhaust upgrade is your best bet!

Regarding the exhaust upgrade: I'm planning to either install a borla touring or a magnaflow street catback to keep things quiet. |

Are you trying to build a sleeper? Lope is a good part of the fun with a cam!

i have heard the 1C in person. doesn't really lope but still sits at idle loud. probably with a quiet exhaust you would be good. i am guessing the other cams are similar to this one.

Yes Sir.
Mike - Have you heard the 1C in a G8 or a Camaro? I heard it in a G8 and it's definately one of the most stealthy sounding cams I ever heard. |

I have heard that CheaTR cam on a 4th gen LS1 and couldnt believe how stock sounding it was. It might of had stock manifolds though as I cant remember for certain. Cant comment on the others though. Have you considered the LS9 cam along with some 1.8 or 1.85 roller rockers? The gains might be as much as the others with that setup. Only drawback is that it would end up costing you more because of the rockers.

Vader - thanks for chiming in! Good to hear some real life feedback about the CheaTR cam. Still wait for some answers from Thunder Racing ... On the other hand Livernois is great when it comes to customer service and communication - they where a big help! As for the LS9 with 1.8 rockers I'm quite not shure. It's definately an interesting alternative but if I got this right 1.8 rockers will increase the lifts. If this wouldn't matter I'd choose the GT11 as well into my top 4. |
