Rims and Drag Radials

Anyone have any aftermarket rims with drag radials? What brands and sizes did you get?

I am having a hard time finding a decent rim and a set of drag radials to fit the rim so that I can take it to the track. I don't want to spend a fortune on rims that are going to be on the car a handful of days out of a year.

To my knowledge Nitto is the only tire manufacturer that makes 20" DR right now...

Once these dudes start making some crazy power with these builds, tire/wheels options will be more plentiful out of sheer necessity.

ARD had a different set of rims/tires on their "world record" SS run...you might call them and ask what tire/wheel set up they were running. Suppose to be 18" C5 ZO6 wheels.

See the set up here...

18" Z06 rims, hm. I am going to have to see what I can get them for. I don't want to blow a bunch of money on rims to take to the track, just doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else have thoughts on rims that would fit the Nitto tires?

I am looking into this also because I dont really want to blow abunch of monet either but if you are gonna be using the tires just for the track then might be better to just buy the z06 rims and just put them in the trunk when you goto the track

I have been looking for a while now.
Face it ... its gonna cost, thats all there is to it.

CCW has a wheel pkg in 18" that will work. He even has pictures of it on his test car with the ET 305/45/18 drag radial. Wheels are like $800 each I think. John is a great guy to deal with though. He'll tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear. HRE also makes an 18" wheel for the SSs but they are a mere $1800 EACH.

I've heard of several people using the 18" ZO6 wheel. I personally would like to see it up close before I ordered a set of wheels though. You can usually buy those wheels fairly resonably on the net. Only drawback is available widths. I dont remember seeing 18s wider than 9.5 but I could be mistaken. 19s go all the way to 12 in the aftermarket versions.

We ran the 18X10.5 ZO6 rims on Pharmd's SS. We had two problems out of it. 1 the emergency brake cables had to be zip tied to the control arm to keep from rubbing the back lip of the rim. The spokes barley cleared the brake calipers.

2 the tires dropped the 60ft 3ths but being that they were a shorter tire the computer shut off the power to the motor after the 8th mile.

I do think that you could still run them with the traction and stability off. But he forgot that he was in manual mode and hit the rev limiter and didn't get a chance to make another run.

Good info. How was the fender/tire gap? Sounds like the added offset moved the wheel inboard quite a bit. Spacers needed?

Which tire did you run?
Exactly which wheel? (part number maybe?) I'd be interested in investigating this further!
And did you have any trouble with the bolt pattern? I see they are slightly different
Thanks in advance

The rim size is 18X10.5 Not sure what the backspacing etc is. Sure it wouldn't be hard to find. It's a stock C5 ZO6 rim size. No spacer is needed to run the rims. If the bolt pattern was different it wasn't enough not to use the ZO6 rims.

It's probably the same bolt pattern as the GTO's. Guys run 4th gen f-body rims on those all the time.

Tire size was 295/35/R18. Fender gap was huge compared to the 20" rims.

Running a wider tire size on this rim setup might require a spacer. I could barley fit my fingers in between the liner in the quarter panel and the tire.

I measured the ZO6 rim & tire from top to bottom and it was 26 3/8" Can someone measure the 20" rim & tire? (rear)

Here a some pics of the tire & rim used.

Thanks for that info!

20" rears should measure about 28.5" tall

I just measured the rear rotor and caliper and it is 15" so whatever you go with remember that.

Looking to run a CCW 18" x 13" rim with this drag radial. The back is being mini-tubbed for clearance. Just another slightly more radical option if traction is an issue. This tire is about 1" shorter than the factory 275/40ZR20.
