Please post your recommendations on some basic upgrades that can be done to increase horsepower for the SS model?

Intake, headers, exhaust, cam although Cam isn't really basic. Also getting the car tuned professionally.

Let's get even more basic... does a K&N Air Filter really increase HP? What about a Power Programmer? I guess I'm interested to see what basic upgrades can be done to increase HP without a Warranty Block. I've seen mixed reviews about tunning due to the issue I just mentioned. More thoughts?

Bang 4 the Buck its going to be very hard to beat Long Tube headers and a custom tune. That should net you around 40rwhp.

Thanks

and of course the fact that voiding the warranty is not possible ...

If all you want is basic, I would go with headers and a tune and if those net you 40+ rwhp I could call it a day.

You could always just put a magnacharger tvs2300 system on it.
Thats good for 120rwhp
Its not as cheap as the other options, but its a fairly simple install.
Smog legal, same gas milage, and very reliable.

Thanks

There isnt much that isnt going to void your warranty or parts of your warranty. K&N air filter maybe, but you might only pick up a few. Adding a less restrictive axle back exhaust would net you some, SLP loud mouth and few other companies are making the same product for axle bak basically it deletes the muffer and sounds better. You could probably do this and a filter and maybe get 15 more HP. Headers on back is going to cost you 2k probably and get you close to 50 hp, but there goes your warranty. Im adding new exhaust because i can live without a warranty on that. Im waiting till the warranty is up to do anything serious at that time, there will be a lot more products out and time to see what works and doesnt work. Also a product that cost x amount now will defintitely be less.

Headers usually require a tune (to keep everything in check and to make good hp gains). That can put you into warrenty issues. Hadden Motorsports made a post in another thread where he said he's seen cars with engine issues (O rings or something like that) because they never got their cars tuned after getting headers.
Just something to think about. I've always gotten my cars tuned after getting headers.
Maybe some shorty headers would be Ok without a tune. But with long tube headers, you should definately get your car tuned.

Arrow GM Performance Parts...

Okay, I called GM today and they said, as of today, there are only 3 approved basic performance upgrades that can be added without warranty issues. From what I understand, the parts should be ordered through a GM Performance Parts Dealer:

1. Shorty Headers: $1,000 MSRP - GM Part # 92213295 (Available 3Q)
2. Exhaust Upgrade Package: $950 MSRP - GM Part # 92206992 (Available now)
3. Air Box: $450 MSRP - GM Part # N/A (Available 3Q)

$2,400 in basic upgrades and guess how much HP this will add?

From what I hear not very much for that kind of dough. I would wait and enjoy my warranty if i were you and get the long tubes later. I'm not waiting I will be getting longtubes shortly just need to find a good tuner. Anybody know one in east tn?

Just a suggestion...but it may be better etiquette to just state how you feel the correct comment should be made rather than respond immaturely because of verbiage.

Plain and simple, GM will not do warranty work if they find out performance modifications have been made and not approved by them.
