19" Wheel Experts, Advice
Hi guys,
For a while now, exactly one year, I have been researching the best possible wheel and tire combination. I have a 1LT, with stock 18" wheels. I would like to upgrade to 19". I've thought of 20's for the longest time, but I do not want to sacrifice too much performance. Also, due to the single piston disc brakes, I also dont want too much space between the wheels and the calipers. To this, I believe 19" might be perfect for my tastes. However, I would like to ask you all to give me some advice. Believe me, I'm taking all the advice dished out to me right now. What kind of tire combination should I get? So far, I've been thinking of the TSW Nurburgrings, 19x9 F, 19x10.5 R. The bad thing is... there isn't too much selection for tires at the size I want. So brands, and tires that I may have overlooked, please help out =D. IF there really is no hope.. then I might go to 20s.

19s and 21s are the bastard sizes for the tire industry. A good quality lightweight 20 could even weigh less than a cheap cast 19. Don't just base weight on diameter. We still use the same diameter tire either way, and tires make up the most difference in weight vs radius from center. I'd call 19s/20s a wash performance-wise, unless you also run shorter (lighter) tires on the 19s.

I would agree with Nine Ball. The higher odd number increments don't seem as popular and hence less selection and maybe no break in price.

Hey man I have a 1LT also with the 18's (had bought the RS package separate but sold the wheels at first) and had this same issue. I researched all kinds of combos. But at the end settled for the good old RS 20's again! They just look good overall and perform great. Plus bought them from a member for $700! Just saying something simple is better. I agree with the trouble you will have with the 19's in the long run.

Thank you wheel experts! I think I will go with the 20's then. After pm'ing one of the members on this board, running same wheels I want, 20x10, 20x9, 275/30 and 255/35. He got me to reconsider going to 20s. He says they are 1" shorter in overall diameter as the SS wheels. 50 lbs lighter than stock wheels in total. Which is good enough for me.
However, I might be going for something more agressive, 295-305 rears and 275 front. What should my profile be? Still 35 front 30 back? Then I'd imagine I'd be bigger in diameter again right?
