Car broken into (alarm question)

So 2 nights ago someone broke into my car and thankfully only stole a little money and my radar detector. Im 95% sure i locked it because i ALWAYS lock it. My question is if the passenger window was down just a crack for ventilation. The alarm does not activate? Or at least the light on the dash does not blink. So if someone jimmied my passenger door would the alarm go off? If so how can you get it to turn back off without the key fob? It was in a parking garage so if it did go off no one would hear it at 4am.

If the doors are locked and the alarm is not set the alarm will not go off. if the alarm is set and a door is opened the alarm will go off until it is dis-armed by the key in the ignition or by the fob. My bet is either you didn't set the alarm or you did and nobody heard it. Either way your stuff is gone. Sorry to hear it.

if my windows are down even part way in my car, the alarm doesn not activate.

I thought that when you use your remote touching the lock button once locks the doors and hitting the lock button the second time set the alarm and the horn toots.

Also, the vast majority of auto break-ins are due to something visable of value. The thieves will case parking areas with a quick glance in the window and if nothing of value is visable they usually move to the next. Glad it wasn't worse!

It was parked in a locked private underground parking garage that they also broke into. There were 4 cars hit this time.... my roommate and about 5 others were hit a few months back. Our HOA sucks and wont do anything about it.

On the key fob. One push will lock doors and alarm will arm after I think 30 seconds. Two presses makes the alarm arm immediately.

Chance03, your alarm was not active....if the light on the dash was NOT blicking.

This is for you all.....it answers some of the questions ya'll ask. This is DIRECTLY out of your owners manual.

Arming the System
To arm the system, press the LOCK on the RKE transmitter. The alarm automatically arms after about 30 seconds. The security light, located on the instrument panel, flashes.

Disarming the System
To disarm the system, do one of the following:

. Press UNLUCK on the RKE transmitter. . Turn the ignition to ON/RUN.

The security light stays on for approximately one second when the vehicle is disarming.
If the system is armed when there are people inside of the vehicle, pulling the door handle from the inside one time will unlock the door. Pulling the handle a second time
will unlatch the door.

How the System Alarm is Activated

To activate the system if it is armed, open any door, the trunk, or hood. The horn will sound and the hazard warning flashers will flash.

How to Turn Off the System Alarm

To turn off the system alarm, do one of the following:
. Press UNLOCK on the RKE transmitter.
. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN.

The theft-deterrent system is disarmed when the alarm is turned off.

How to Detect a TamperCondition

If the horn sounds and the turn signal lamps flash three times when K is pressed, an attempted break-in has occurred while the system was armed. The vehicle may also display a message on the DIC.

Locked private underground parking garage = car thief shopping malls. These garages are almost impossible to keep truly secure. I'm sorry your car got hit, I'd leave the windows all the way up and keep the valuables out of sight.

I was told that camaros don't come with alarms by the finance guy. He was trying to sell me a $700 alarm and said that if I get an aftermarket warranty, I will most likely void the electrical warranty. I didn't buy it because I don't leave anything in the car.
