3.91s at the track

Has anyone installed the 3.91s in their manual SS and gone to the strip? I'm curious as to how this mod affects ET and trap speeds.

I have been wanting an answer to this question for a long time! Seems the people that have put gear in there car, are not drag racers....

ive had my car with the 3.91s at the track several times. The trap speeds are about the same but the launch takes a lil bit of getting used to. With the gears its easier to smoke the tires out of the hole if you dont slip the clutch just right. Also the extra shift sucks. I shift to 4th about 150ft or so before the line. I used to be right at redline in 3rd before the gears. Once I added the Vortech I was trapping 123 easing out of the hole to avoid roasting my clutch or snapping a half shaft. I'm not the best driver in the world so my launches and traps arent as good as most of the guys here.

I did this early this year. Stock form I trapped consistent 111.02. After the gear swap to 3.91 I slowed down to 110.55 consistent. However my 1/8 mile time picked up by 2.5 mph and my overall 1/4 et picked up a solid 3 tenths.
This all happened with the same track conditions or as close to as possible.
Take it for what it's worth.

Cheers

Great info. What else is done to your car? I'm shifting to 4th anyway and am wondering if shifting to 4th sooner with the 3.91s will help or hurt my trap speed.

I pick up a little MPH at an 1/8th mile track but not much.

As far as street light to street light.....well worth adding the gears. Noticeable torque increase.

This was with the gear only. With the 3.45 I would finish the 1/4 just about hitting the limiter in 3rd and at 111mph. For shi#$'s and giggles I shifted to 4th a little early and my mph slowed down to 109.5mph. So now with the 3.91 I'm shifting 4th probably around the 1000ft mark and trapping mid 110's.
