i wish GM would just come out and tell us what they are doing. and i hope it is something simlpe like in the past as far as the engine line up goes... possibly LS3 as base V8 with 450 hp and then the Top Dog with the LS9 making 625!!!! tha'd be SICK!!! but i really want the base V8 to be the LS3 so i can afford it, i want that motor so bad!!!!

I think I have that issue but there is nothing new in there if memory serves.
There are little tidbits in GMHTP, but again, nothing as good as one will find here

I think it'll be between the L76 or LS3. The LS3 would be better, but we have until September to find out...

I don't think Ls3 will be base V8. It has over 430 hp in corvette. If there will be v6 DI from caddy with around 300 hp i think there will be at least one engine between 300 and 430 hp. So maybe there will be future V6 with TT but i don't think if this engine is made it is going to be cheap. Or some V8 CIB engine with around 360-380 Hp (L76 or even gen V... i don't know). Now LS3 can be detuned to about 400 hp or even less probably and maybe then there wouldn't be need for another v8 between. But Challenger has 425 hp now and probably will get new hemi with 380 Hp.
Now if this new Gen. V is DOHC with DI and VVT and not CIB it will probably be heavier and more expensive then LS based engine so i don't think we will see that kind of engine being base V8 in camaro. Even if it is made light and compact it will probably be even more expensive because they would need to use more expensive alloys to get there. So there is even less chance of that. |

i think there will be 3 engines offered/ the v6, a small v8 and an ls3 for even more money. we all know the ls3 will be in the car but as base i doubt it

Thats what I think too. Even if the LS3 costs the same as the L76, there is more that adds to the cost. First off, people would pay more to have the extra power. So GM makes an extra thousand or two solely because of that. There is also the interior and suspension, plus possible exterior changes.

More power requires more heavy-duty parts and such. I know that GM has been pretty inventive with moving weight around in cars. I'm not sure if the have continued doing this, but I remember when the last generation Tahoes first came out, if it came with a third seat, GM engineered different aluminum components in the rear of the vehicle to compansate for the added weight and such. Maybe the same could be done here.

GM has already said they've stopped the DOHC motors. A Gen V would be cool but probably not in time for the first production year.
