Sick ride. A really fun project I bet. I may be in the minority, but I like the flames. In subtle semi opaque colors. That car ooozes down the road.

I am a die-hard Chevy guy when it comes to classic cars, but gotta respect those custom Mercs....truly bad-ass looking rides.

I liked the flames too, but the car was too rough to keep that way, I did think about it.

Bad ass dude. I have loved early 50s Mercs since I saw Cobra for the first time lol. Loved Stallones 50 Mercury in that movie

Yep one of my three big influences...
One of the others.... Name the movie: Cobra: Hirohata Mercury, the most famous 49-51 Merc custom of all time: Me on a Home Depot run

I've been researching 49-51 Merc stuff for 6 years, and I've found some folks who are real experts and I've learned a lot from them.
Originally I just wanted a Merc, kinda didn't care how it would look. I did even buy moon discs like the Cobra Merc but I realized that I liked the older builds. So my car after some photoshop, researching, soul searching became what I call a circa 1955 build. So none of the exterior parts on the car are newer than 1955 except for the tires, which are Diamondback white wall radials based in Michelins. Even my planned grill bar is from a '55 Dodge. My taillights are '53 Chrysler. I take that back, my wheel centers are Spider caps, and they are 60's. I would eventually need to take them off and do something more era specific and I do have some ideas. I've researched the first 10-15 49-51 Mercs customized, and my one of my favorites is this one. So my car does look a lot like it: The same car 2 years earlier, this car changed a lot over the years: mine a few years ago, no wing mirrors, used a photo editor for the old pic look: [IMG][/IMG]

Yeah I have a few other spots for cool pics, but I'll wait until I have the grille on the car. I have a few mechanical things to address on the car too.
