GF is tired of looking at the dashboard...

Need C5's advice on this one...

The predicament is that the GF being 5'3", pretty much is staring at the dashboard when in the passenger seat. As far as I know there is no height adjustment on the passenger side, so I'm thinking of picking up a seat cushion.

Before I go to an auto parts store, can anyone recommend a good seat cushion?

Oh, and getting a taller GF is out of the question...

Thanks.

LOL tell her to suck it up. If shes 5'3 isnt she supposed to be in a booster seat anyways?

J/K bro. You could always make a new bracket to mount between the seat and the floorpan, but I dont know if that would be safe or not. I wouldnt bother though.

I would not use a cushion, as it can interfere with the passenger sensing system for the airbag.

I don't have a solution for you though, sorry!

a cushion should not interfere with the sensor. . the sensor goes on weight only. . .

With all due respect, I beg to differ...

'The passenger sensing system may not operate properly if the original seat trim is replaced... 4) "if any object, such as an aftermarket seat heater or a comfort enhancing pad or device is installed under the seat or between the occupant and the seat fabric".

Get a back-up camera and LCD, but mount it in the front. Or just leave the camera wired loose in the interior and let her hold it up like a periscope so she can look around.

I was going to suggest the same thing. as long as no one minds that the top of the seat might look higher on the passenger side after that.
It shouldn't be too hard to make a sturdy spacer.

I like this idea , but i too have had the same issue as the OP. Im thinking of adjusting the height of the brackets by welding on a shim to heighten the seat a couple of inches. The Finace is also complaining how the sun visor is a piece of $hi* becasue she sits so low. I figured raising the seat will solve both issues.

Having spent the '90s working for a tier 1 automotive supplier developing passenger safety systems, I would have to say don't mess with it unless you understand the system. Having been out of the business for 10 years, it's hard to say which system is used. Some sort of weight classification is likely there and is possibly accomplished by load cells in the seat mounts. This method can also determine the occupant's center of gravity, thus de-powering the airbag in case the occupant is leaning forward, sideways, whatever. Definitely would not want to alter that with new brackets. Another method for occupant sensing could be use of a capaciflector. This is a device developed by NASA that basically can use the moisture in your body as a dielectric for a capacitor, which would be under the seat fabric, thus sensing the presence of a person as opposed to a bag of dog food. Sitting on a cushion would render this method useless. There is also IR, which can send emit and detect laser bouncing off the occupant and then with triangulation determine your position in the seat, thus adjusting the force of the airbag. Then there may be whole new technologies that have been recently developed. Sorry for the long post, just saying, best not to alter something unless you totally understand the potential risks.

There are numerous threads on raising the passenger seat. Many of us are in the same situation with shorter passengers. Supposedly, GM raised the passenger seats slightly in the '11 models. However, that doesn't help us with the '10 models.
