Oil pressure gauge

I changed my oil at 1500 miles and decided to switch to fully synthetic oil. I have now noticed the oil pressure going up and down with the rpms. I didnt pay attention to before I changed oil. Im wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is it normal? I have the 3.8 v-6.

Usually its a sign of normal working pressure. Unless the needle is sweeping the full range of the gauge you really have nothing to worry about. If its dropping tottally in the danger zone and picking back up you either have a bad oil filter, not enough oil in the system a clogged oil pump pickup, or the sensor itself is bad. Sometimes with a restrictive oil filter the oil pressure dose drop slightly from time to time but its nothing to get all worried about. If your really concerned with the dips in oil pressure I would recommend switching to a more free flowing oil filter. In my Mustang I was using FRAM oil filters and had the same situation and ended up switching up to a Mobil 1 oil filter which solved the problem. Hope this helps
And oh yeah...the Camaros come from the factory with Mobil 1 synthetic..so essentially you did not switch to synthetic

This is normal. Oil Pressure will change as you go through the rpm range.

1) V6 did not come with synthetic.
2) Mine idles @ 30# and off the end at any RPM over idle.
3) This started a 450 miles.

Local dealers have no idea other than it "might" be a faulty sensor.

Looks like there may be a bunch of them.

Ok, no one else said it so I'll be that guy. It's a 3.6 V6, not a 3.8

Just for g.p. and my OCD doesn't allow me to leave the thread until it's corrected

Here is the section from the Owner's Manual PDF.

Engine Oil
Pressure Gage
The oil pressure gage, located in
front of the shifter, shows the engine
oil pressure in psi (pounds per
square inch) when the engine is
running. Canadian vehicles indicate
pressure in kPa (kilopascals).
Oil pressure may vary with engine
speed, outside temperature and oil
viscosity, but readings above the low
pressure zone indicate the normal
operating range. When the oil
pressure reaches the low pressure
zone, a message appears in the
Driver Information Center (DIC).
See
Engine Oil Messages on
page 4-32
and Engine Oil on
page 9-10
for more information.

{
WARNING

Do not keep driving if the oil
pressure is low. The engine can
become so hot that it catches fire.
Someone could be burned.
Check the oil as soon as possible
and have the vehicle serviced.
Notice:
Lack of proper engine oil
maintenance can damage the
engine. The repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle warranty.
Always follow the maintenance
schedule in this manual for
changing engine oil.

A reading in the low pressure zone
can be caused by a dangerously
low oil level or some other problem
causing low oil pressure. Check

Oil pressure gauges work with the read out in the middle...........this one is off the deep end past the end. More like as mini speedometer

Same here - went to full synthetic and my idle is fine; however while i'm driving at higher speeds the gage is pegged.
