But for a person that doesnt own a Camaro I say go get the Z-28 but for a person on a budget in 2012 if we all still alive and the world doesnt end. I will tell that person go buy a used 2009 or 2010 Camaro SS and Trow a SuperCharger and youll have it for less then 26k instead of paying 60,000.

And if i come across 60 thousand dollars that I find under my bed I still would not buy a Z-28 I would buy a 69 ss done up to the fullest
again why does everyone ASSume that the Z is just going to be a supercharged SS? sorry I just don't see how this is possible when we start talking about price bracket the car is marketed in. There will be other improvements over an SS.

I'm not saying that you aren't right for holding on to your car. but to say that if you own a camaro you'd understand is bogus. some people the price just isn't worth the squeeze. some people it is. even the ones that own the camaro.

if you found 60k why waste it on a 69 SS? personal preference, that's why. because I'd waste it on a 69 Z28. . .will be worth more then an SS.

Does anyone know the 3-digit tire widths seen on the prototype?

To everyone who says "just throw on a supercharger and you'll be golden!"...

I'll ask you again about that when you've thrown a rod and are replacing 12,000 dollars worth of parts out of your own pocket.

I don't even want a Z28, my dream car is a 2013 Imperial Blue 1SS. But I at least accept that there will be more differences between a Z28 and an SS than there will be between an SS and an LS.

The official Z/28 won't just be a supercharged SS. The original Z was built to qualify the car for the Trans Am racing class. The early spy shots indicate they're following this same philosophy with the new one. The chassis, bushings, suspension, brakes, drivetrain, etc will all be specially built and tuned for road racing. You'd practically have to do what the racing teams have done with an SS to get close to what a factory Z is going to be like.

Will they be worth it? They will to those racing. Hard to say if people are going to want to spend that much for a street car or daily driver. As for modding, I don't see there being that much room for mods if they build it to qualify for a racing class. At least not any cheap mods.

Gonna be interesting to see though.

just talking to someone that makes part of drivetrain for Camaros, they said they are just making prototype part for drivetrain for the Z28. they had made a handful of the part, and its just in prototype stage. so how long does it take to go from prototype to production??? more good news though that they are getting closer to coming out with the Zedder

Challenger test mules began being seen around and driving in early-mid 2007. Challenger production started in early 2008...

My guess is that the Z/28 or whatever this supercharged Camaro is will be ready to go by Feb.

Why does everyone assume this will cost 60 large. Don;t they want to price it below the corvette? They don't want it to be faster than the vette. How about the original Z28, was it quicker than a vette?

It pretty much has to be faster than a base Corvette though if its going to be competitive against the GT500. And pricing, GM has kept the Camaro a little bit above the Mustang from base V6's to the 2SS/GT Premium. So I wouldn't expect anything different with the Z28. In which case, it will be above the price of a base Corvette. Maybe about the same as a Grand Sport.

These engines can take boost in stock form. $12K in repairs? No even close. These are not expensive exotic engines.

What cr is the ls3? 10.1:1? Not ideal for boost. Also how much boost are you talking about here? Not extremes that people think it will. Look up the prices for building a forced induction setup from scratch. If done right 12k is very low for everything.

10.7:1 for the LS3, compared to 9.1:1 for the LSA.

I didn't know I had to go into detail. lol

they can handle 8-9# for a long long time. I had over 100K on my LS motor running 8# with no issues. (100K MILES)

$12K to build a forged block? No way! Come on now, don't make these comments unless you have experience with the LS1 motors. I built a forged block for $3K!!
