Removing CATs

My motor is stock, resonator removed and cherry bomb glass packs. I was thinking for a quick easy/cheap mod removings CATs. BTW no inspections in SC.

What kind of sensor issues will I have?
Will I need a tune?
Will I feel the diff or mostly hear the difference?

Yes you will need a tune...they sell cat delete pipes...and you could just eliminate all that altogether and get long tubes with off-road pipes

Edit: with long tubes, off road pipes, and a tune you bet you will feel a difference and will
hear a dramatic difference

Small, but effective mod list:

Roto-Fab Intake, TSP 2" Long tubes, TSP catless mids, MSD spark plug wires, stock catback, Elite Catch Can, APEX washer relocation and scoop, VMAX throttle body, Diablo InTune-Tuned by Matt@FSP, and a JacFab license plate bracket.

Your rear O2 sensors will trip for sure. You'll need those codes deleted. You'll want to check your fuel trims too and see if they are out of whack. If they are, you'll need that part of the tune so you might as well get the rest of it done too.

Why just delete the cats? Perfomance gain isn't much compared to headers. Why don't you go ahead & do headers & off-road pipes? The TSP system even has dummy cats to fake out visual.

Dummy CATs thats a clever idea, I'll give them that one. I was just thinking of a quick cheap MOD.

I hate cats my self but if your not going to go with headers LT's/ST's, then your gains will be minimal at best. For sure your will need to shut off your O2 codes so, yea tune. They say that HFC are pretty good. I wont be running them.

they are hands down the most restrictive part of the exhaust. I swapped in the JBA catless pipes, noticed a huge difference in sound. The car seemed to rev quicker, run a tad cooler and the but dyno noticed some extra grunt. I am still data logging and waiting to get a tune, but the car drives fine without it, just has a CEL. I had Cherry Bomb xtreme mufflers and the sound was unbearable with the deleted cats, switched to a Solo Mach XL and it is one of the best exhaust sounda I have ever heard!

One you take them of and look at the dual cats on both sides you willl see why its a nice improvement!

If you're serious about removing your cats then seriously consider investing in long tube headers. With them either get high flow cats or catless mid pipes.

Louder, PLUS performance gains! Win Win!

You'll need a tune to resolve any sensor issues, etc.

TSP for the win regarding catless pipes! They look like high flow cats.

Just an FYI...I paid $536 shipped for my 2" TSP headers, off road pipes (dummy cats), and extensions....cannot beat that

When I was 16 I got permission to take my Dad's '81 Vette, bored out 360 cammed w/straight side pipes it was pretty awsome for about 20 min, then it became unbarable. Not sure I want that either. Pops eventually went back to mufflers too. The engine may stay stock for awhile. I plan on hitting road coarse's; maybe when lap times become consistant I'll change my mind.

I got a set of JBA cat delete pipes, couldn't afford long tube headers at the time, but for $150, and a decent hp pickup, it was a good deal. You can see in my signature what I dyno'd back in Arkansas closer to sea level with them. I love the sound and get compliments all the time. But, if I were you, I'd hold out and get a set of longitudes. More power gain and probably a more refined exhaust note.

I hardly ever notice the "smell". But, personally I like it.

As someone who has toyed with older muscle as well, I can tell you this will not sound like a straight pipe'd cam'd small block chevy.

Yeah very loud. Maybe a CAM and side pipes in 10 years when my boy turn 16 carry on the tradition.
