A way around skipshift
I find that when the skipshift light comes on, I can just move the shifter in the fourth gear gate but then without reengaging the clutch move the lever forward into third. There's enough grunt in third for the speed I'm going at that point so it eliminates the lugging issue. I haven't tried moving the shifter into second but I suspect that would work as well. It's not as good as eliminating skipshift altogether, but it doesn't activate often enough for me to purchase an eliminator.

There's a skip shift eliminator that you can install. It's about $30. You can also have a tuner tune it out and won't have to worry about it anymore.

if you give it enough gas in first, skip shift will never come on. that is how i dealt with it in my Trans Am.

Drive it like you stole it and you will never see skip shift.

Just don't shift at that time. A little more throttle and RPM and it will go away by itself. In otherwords just drive past it when it comes up.

It sounds easy to just drive around it, but there are those times, in traffic etc. where you hit it and then cuss it out then go home and order a skip shift eliminator. At least that's what I did with my first Vette that had it. First mod on everything else since.

I hate skipshift so much, but I do rarely see it. Contrary to what you may believe (since I drive a 1LE), I do like to be fuel efficient on the road.

You can hit clear when it comes on and it won't lock you out of any gears

That is how I deal with it in my Corvette too. This "skip shift" GM uses has been around for a long time. And you don't really have to rev it up that high either. Just keep it in first a little longer, and the light will go back out. Skip Shift only activates within a very narrow range of parameters.

ya dont worry about rear ending the guy in front of you just give it more gas. every time mine came on it was because of the guy infront of me would not speed up.

The way the solenoid is setup, it's only able to lock out second...it just winds up pushing you into 4th even though all 5 other forward gears are still available.
Hitting clear does not cancel it, it's not a function of the BCM, it's a function of the PCM. the message on the dash and the clear button is just a reaction of the BCM to the action of the PCM...you just think it's clearing it because by the time you've hit clear and then tried to complete your shift, you've taken long enough that the PCM is no longer blocking out second...try just taking the same amount of time, but turn the headlights on instead of hitting clear...you'll wind up with the same result from the shifter.
