Just got Alienware

UPDATE:

So it looks like i'm getting a XPS 8100 INSTEAD. HERE'S THE SPECS...

intel core i7-870 processor (8MB cache, 2.93GHz)

6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz-2X2GB/2x1GB
ATI Radeon HD 5670
750GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200RPM
16x DVD+/-RW
THX TruStudio PC

Well, I pulled the trigger on a new computer. It's been A LONG time since i had a computer or internet. Probably about 2 years. The only internet access i've had was with my iphone or at work. lol

Here's the specs...

Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz (4MB Cache)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (2x2)
Single ATI 5670, 1GB GDDR5
500GB - SATA-II 3Gb/s 7200RPM, 16MB Cache HDD
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Single Drive: 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
NERO 9, ANW
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
Alienware High-Performance Liquid Cooling

First thing I'll probably do is pick up this Call of Duty everyone is raving about. And a lot of people at work always talk about WoW, so I'll pick that up too.

Oh, and it'll be hooked up to my 55" wall mount plasma tv.

Nice machine, just got slammed by my wife today b/c I want to replace my 4yr old model, which is a 2.6 dual core, with a 1gb video card...not sure on the specs, haven't opened it in awhile but yeah. She told me if I get a new computer, I will be living on the couch...so I will just deal with it for a little while longer.

Sounds like you have a nice machine...just don't taint it with WoW, I am a 4 year recovering wowcaholic. It's a dark path, very dark, and very lonely, and smells of hotpockets and Totstino's pizzas.

I hear this all the time! it's a good thing i have some free time on my hands then! lol

it just sucks that it takes so long to build and deliver. I should get it around the 23rd.

Nice machine. Alienware is cool, but be aware that their business model was based off the premiere computer gaming machine company Falcon Northwest...who still puts out a superior product, but at a higher price (and better customer service).

Alienwares are good machines though...I still like the fact that Falcon was able to paint mine the color of my car.

I started looking at parts to put together my next PC sometime back in May. Lightning hit our house in June and fried my then PC, so I got a new one.

No wife, thus the reason I'm able to afford the PC

That other machine was one I built, and is still pretty fast. It has 4 250GB drives in it, and is running SLI as well. I built it about 3 years ago, and the parts were pretty decent at that time.

The best thing about the new PC I have is that it's running a 256GB Solid State Drive. Some of the load times I have are just sick.

Here's the build -

Silverstone Icon Aluminum Chassis painted Chevy Imperial Blue Metallic
Side Panel with LED Blue Lighting
EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard
Intel Core I7 975 Extreme 3.33 GHz
Asetek CPU Water Cooling
Enermax Magma 1200 Watt Power SUpply
12 GB RAM (6 2GB D3 PC3-1333MHz)
X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Sound Card
LG 8X Blue-Ray Disk Writer
Atech Flash Media Reader
2 EVGA Superclocked GeForce 295 1.8GB Video Cards in SLI (That's quad SLI)
Corsair 256GB Solid State Drive
Western Digital 2TB Hard Drive
LG W3000H-BN 30" 5MS LCD Display
Logitech G9 Mouse

^wow, that's awesome. I got pretty much the bare minimum when it comes to alienware. hopefully that's good enough, but i'm sure i can add a few things here and there later down the road, ie memory or video/sound cards.

You should play WoW on a private server. You can't get in trouble for it, and you'll get bored of it within a few months (compared to a few years).

How would I go about playing on a private server? The reason i'm going to try it is because of a few guys at work. they've been playing now for about 2 years i believe. Also, what's the benefit of playing on a private server vs. non private?

I'm new to the whole online game playing, btw. lol

Pro:
PS are free
PS have it to where you can level up at a faster rate (if you want) for example (2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 100x) or instant level 80 (max), so you can go raiding immediately.

Downside:
PS don't have 24 hour support
PS sometimes don't have 100% working instances (levels with boss fights)
PS sometimes have invisible enemies, most have gotten rid of this
PS sometimes have noobs, usually less than normal wow servers

I say it's worth not having to pay $15/month. All you have to do is change 2 lines (copy/past from the website) in a .txt file to connect to the private server. There's nothing complicated about it.

You can't get in trouble for playing on one, but the owners of the PS can get in trouble for charging you to play on their server. Sometimes there are benefits to donating, sometimes not.

Pros to a private server:
- Free
- Faster leveling if its set up to do so

Cons of a private server:
- Full of bugs, like seriously, full of bugs
- Gets old really quick when everything is handfed to you
- Full of bugs
- Crashes all the time
- Laggy as all hell
- Little to no support at all (you get what you pay for)
- Full of hackers
- Full of bugs
- Not nearly as fun as a real server
- Full of bugs

Ive been playing WoW since beta and I do enjoy playing and paying 15 dollars a month in a game that is constantly releasing free content.
