Is a tune a must?

Original plan for the car was an exhaust, cam and tune.

Thinking like an adult here and instead of putting a cam in,
I'm gonna pay off the car and look into buying a house.

I figure the summer is pretty much over by the time I order parts and book my car in. Then a week's wait and it's August already till I have the car again.

So I'm going to still install an exhaust and I know it'll run like shit with out a tune.

How long can I drive it like this? Without a tune. It's not a DD just a Sunday driver type car.

I plan on a tune, just have to get the exhaust in first

If your talking just a cat back exhaust, then no tune needed. If you talking headers than you need a tune. You can go without a tune for headers but you will throw a CEL, I don't think it will run like crap, just not to its potential. However I may be wrong

As whemming said, no tune needed for exhaust only. Headers and a CAM both, and a tune is definitely required.

Running without tune won't hurt anything. Headers/cats will throw a code, as long as you can live with the light you'll be fine. A good tune can cough up some HP and TRQ.

Dont NEED a tune with headers, as others have said, its just a code from the Cats/O2 sensors.

you DO need a tune if you get a cam IMO

Anything that moves the position of the MAF such as Cold Air Intakes, Superchargers, etc require a tune change. Doesn't matter what anyone says. Any good tuner should know this. To sell these systems as non tunable is irresponsible IMHO. Same goes for movement of the O2 Sensors. These 2(MAF and 02) sensors are 2 of the 3 most important sensors to the wellbeing of the vehicle. No tune can result in burnt spark plugs, Burnt 02 sensors, horrible gas milage, loss of power. I have seen no tunes with these mods lose a lot of power.

If all you are doing is changing the rear part of the exhaust system then you are good to go.

Hope this helps.
