93 Gas in Arizona?
Anyone live in the Chandler/Gilbert area know of any gas stations that carry 93 gas? Everyone I've seen so far have 91. Maybe almost all of them carry 91 only..... just thought I'd ask.
Thanks. |

I know down here 91 is the highest you can get minus a couple places that sell 100 for $6 a gallon.

I have only come up with two solutions to this problem, so far. The first is to mix one gallon of 100* to every three gallons of 91* or add octane booster. Most octane boosters are junk and will foul plugs etc.. However "Octanium" seems to be the real deal to bring up the octane a couple points. www.octaniumpower.com.

91 should be fine, the whole west coast is running it, read the octane boost tread, it seems to be a wast of money using anything over 91

That's what I figured.... .Thanks for everyones input. The only reason I ask is I was getting some occasional knocking on my V8 that sounded like it was probably bad gas. Could have been the chain I was using (Cheveron) but I also thought using 93 wouldnt hurt as it is mentioned in the owners manual.... Guess I'm stuck with 91.
Thanks. |

TO add to what Flynn said... I have run 91 in my Evo since I bought it (manual says tested with 93), it has always run just fine. I did throw a tank of 100 in it a year or so ago for giggles... it definately made a difference, but not enough for the price.

I ran 87 in my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a Hemi, no problem, it's suppose to have 91 in it. I ran 91 in my 1970 Camaro because it would knock alittle if I put the cheap stuff in, I think it's kinda 50/50 on the whole thing. On another note, I had two diffrent freinds call me to tell me they spotted Camaros today in Tucson, one freind told me he saw a yellow one on I-10, and another yellow one on a car hauler, too bad it was'nt mine :(, then a co-work just had to rub it in he sawe one in town somewhere, I hate them

I hope you get your car soon. I know I've seen a bunch just in the last 2 weeks and I never saw any up until that time. Think I've seen 4 different ones in the Chandler area.
They seem to be rolling in now. |

A guy at work told me there is a gas station off the B-Line highway and Shea that sells 100 octane racing fuel. I was going to check it out ro see if it is true but if anyone makes the trip up that way before I do, stop by and let us know!

There is a gas station (thought it was a Valero, but not sure) that is on Chandler Blvd, a little ways past 48th street (to the west of) on the north side of the road. Believe its on the corner of S 44th street and Chandler Blvd. They sell the racing gas (100 something) for like $8 gallon. The gas station is right next to Sonic's.

Yes, as others posted only 91 available here, except for race gas which actually makes less power than 87 octane pump gas unless your engine is modded and/or tuned to take advantage of added spark advance.
As octane increases, the amount of BTU energy in the fuel decreases so you end up with less power unless you mod and tune your engine to actually be able to benefit from higher octane. Octane boost chemically both displaces the actual gas in the fuel content per gallon as it suppresses the gas's ability to burn and release as much energy. Rule of thumb is to run the lowest octane gas that you can get away with, without causing detonation. For a stock or relatively stock Camaro, 91 octane will work fine. Would love to see a dyno comparision on a stock engine or even an engine with a few bolt-ons, showing 87, 91 & 93 octane differences. FWIW, my 2007 Kawi ZX-14 pulled 6 more HP on the dyno with 87 octane vs. with 91 octane. Not saying this applies to the LS3 or the L99 as I have no experience dyno'ing these engines. I have a turbo'd chevy silverado and have played with blending my own race gas. It's a huge PITA and I don't recommend tuning for anything other than the readily available 91 octane stuff that we are stuck with here.
