Strut tower brace for cammed SS

Hello all I recently upgraded my cam the car is now making around 460-470 RWHP. Would the car benifit from a strut brace? Just curious if it is worth worrying about? The car is a 2011 LS3 SS.

Strut braces are mostly a cosmetic piece so in my opinion you would not gain anything from it.

I think the cars that benefit from the strut brace most are circle track cars and auto-crossers. Because of the cornering stress they are subjected to.

For a Cam its not necessary, but ive noticed that without the Strut Bar there seems to be a bit more understeer than without, so if your into handling its a good buy.

Besides looking good I can tell the difference after installing the strut brace. When making a fast turn I don't feel the front wheels "skipping" like they used to do b4 I put the struct brace on. The BMR brace I think is a lot more heavy duty than the GM brace which may make the difference.

Being functional is just a bonus of looking good!

Unless you plan on doing some serious autocross/road course racing, I think strut tower braces are not worth the money. I'd get one if you plan on actually racing the car on a track. The ZL1/1LE/Z/28 are all track oriented cars and GM installed a factory strut tower brace for a reason.

If your car already has the threaded holes in the top of the strut tower then why not just get one. The OEM GM brace is cheap compared to other mods. It's about the easiest install there is, it looks good and it does make some difference in the front end handling. Great addition to have.

Strut braces look good, but don't expect too much as far as performance benefits. There are much better bangs for the buck out there such as; sway bars, springs, bushings and rear arms.

Also, if you have a late 2011 with the pre tapped holes, I would take advantage of them and go with a STB that utilizes those holes. If not, the Hotchkis STB would be my choice.

Please feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

Best regards,

Tyler
