Question IS THE AIRRAID INTAKE ANY GOOD?

So i bought an airiaid intake almosty two years ago atthe time it seemd to be the best thing on the market...now all i hear people talk about is varam and the roto fad and the cai...how much of a difference is there, it seems like mine has a larger diameter tube which would bring more air I would think. So is an intake an intake or do i need to sell this thing and upgrade? Im really interested in improving my 1/8 and 1/4 mile time from what i have been told the varam is only beneficial at 100 mph +...what do my fellow camaro brotheren think???

I'm a v6 owner with airaid cai and Iv been very impressed with it. Only thing Iv never liked is where they put the tube where it draws in air from right next to the radiator. I wish I could develop some type of tube that runs down from my empty fog light spot up to my air aid filter.

My Airaid has been good. The things I like about are the apparent larger tube, its more gradual radius (doesn't make a sharp right angle turn), the filter element appears to be larger than the others, and the airbox is also larger. I think Janetty's comprehensive comparison test showed the Airaid made within a couple of HP of the "best". IMHO, that's within the statistical margin of error. The materials and construction are top notch (better than most of the other IMHO).

What I don't like about it is how the tube overhangs the radiator, making the use of a radiator cover impossible. I think the radiator covers really clean up the underhood appearance.

Having said this I may exchange my Airaid for a Roto-fab, so I can add a radiator cover, but performance wise I've got no complaints.

I like the air raid ... I used it on my old 2010. Material is good for drilling if you spray it.

If you go to "CFD's build thread" post 45 shows the inlet tube mounting I used on my factory air box and my Airaid. It may give you an idea on how to do yours

The difference is available air. The ADM scoop has shown us that the OEM box with the OEM scoop doesn't provide the optimal amount of air to the intake tube. Since the Airraid is almost identical to the OEM box in terms of getting air, it suffers the same problems. What that equates to in terms of HP is most likely in the range of 4-8whp, depending on what system you go with. I'm not a fan of VR but others swear by them so you have to use your own judgement on any intake you look at.

Call and talk to Ted at Jannetty. I had a Vararam and it performed well. It just had to small issues in the way it fit. I purchased a Rotofab from Ted and I am very happy now. With his tune my car woke up. The Rotofab also has a nasty growl when you get on it. Twice the sound of the Vararam. The intake fits super nice and looks amazing.

Rotofab all the way for me. Just my opinion though.

Call Ted at JRE. He will shoot you straight. Very honest guy. www.jreperformanceparts.com

The Airaid is an excellent intake, it performs well, looks great, and is probably the best quality piece that I've seen. We install Airaids on most of the cars that come in here, and they perform very well; you'll be very happy with the results!
You can still install a radiator cover with them, you'll just have to trim the cover where the intake tube sits.

Feel free to give us a call, email, or PM anytime!
